Working with Layers
Day 1:

  1. Open PS
  2. Create an image that is 500 Pixels by 500 pixels
  3. Fill the background layer with a red color
  4. Create a new layer
  5. Select the circle marque tool
  6. Drag out a circle
  7. Fill the selection with yellow
  8. Use the type tool and type your name


Day 2: 

- Working with the Layers Options or Blending Options

You should have a Photoshop Document that looks similar to the screen shot below. Check to make sure you have 3 layers. The yellow circle should be on its own layer. If not start over

  1. Right click on your Yellow Circle Layer and Select “Blending Options..”
  2. Add a drop shadow
  3. Adjust the distance, spread and size
  4. Add:
  1. Outer Glow,
  2. Bevel and Embross <– Change the position to down,
  3. Dark Yellow Stroke.

Day 3:

Converting a Background Layer Adding some Paint to our Graphic design.

  1.  Open your Photoshop Notes File
  2. Check to see if your bottom (red layer) is not a background layer
  3.  
  4. You may now add Blending Options.
  5. Add a stroke of your choice to the bottom image.

Paint Brushes - They are a lot of fun to Experiment with.

Make sure you get the correct brush. There are a couple of icons in the tool bar that look like paint brushes. You want the Pain Brush Tool.

  1. From the tool bar select the brush tool. At the top is the options tool bar this is one location where you can change brushes.
  2. Click on the down arrow next to brushes and select the brushes flyout
  3. This will give you a lot of brush options.
  4. Experiment with the different brushes.
  5. You can also brushes in a Pallet Well located in the top right corner of the screen.

Day 4 - Saving in the correct format

  1. Open your image in Photoshop
  2. Place your name and hour in the lower right corner.
  3. From the File Menu select Save For Web
  4. Select the appropriate File type.
  5. You can also adjust the image size if needed here too.
