Minutes of Redding Monthlly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends

Present:  Steve Sharpless, Tom and Sue Morehouse, Doris Bond and Bonnie Byers.

Review and Approval of Minutes:  Tom provided printed copies of July’s business meeting minutes, which were approved.

Treasurer’s Report:  Doris reported we have a total of $1822.43 in our bank account.  She has paid PYM dues of $500.  Faithworks towels have been purchased.  We approved reimbursement for visitor information folders of $40. Rent due to the UMC for remainder of 2011 is $300.

Review of Mail:  Tom announced some workshops at the Quaker Center in Ben Lomond.

M & O: No committee members present. The next Dinner Among Friends will be this Wed. 8/17 at 5:00 pm at Yama Sushi 9/16, followed by Meet the Budhists at 6:20 at The Spiritual Enrichment Center on Hartnell.  A volunteer host is needed to host the dinner on 9/16th.  It was decided that we will return to having Dinner Among Friends on the first Friday on each month, beginning with 10/7 at Bonnie’s house. Since Sat. 10/8 (note date change) will be the yardsale at Bonnie’s house, please bring items for sale to dinner on Friday.

Peace and Social Order:  Faithworks fund raiser dinner will be 10/1.  Doris has made a $100 donation to purchase a table for 8.  Please let Doris know if you plan to attend and make donations for your dinner to Faithworks.  MLK Center is holding ‘Come to the Table’ on 8/28 in honor of the MLK momument dedication in D.C., 48th anniversary of “I Have a Dream” speech, and 50th anniversary of the Freedom Riders.  Lunch will be server from 2-3:00 pm, followed by a program from 3-5:00 pm.

Unity with Nature: The idea of requesting PYM grant money for a communtiy garden for Faithworks will need to be on hold, since the additional apartments are on hold. We will need to come up with another idea if grant money becomes available.

Interfaith Report:  Doris reported that SCIF is meeting again on 9/14.

Old Business:  Doris brought folders of information for visitors.  We approved adoption of these packets.

New Business:  Susie reported that the Methodist have requested that we serve brunch again in Nov.

We decided to not have a business meeting in September since clerk and recording clerk will be gone.

Coming Events:  Dinner Among Friends 8/17 5:00 PM at Yama Sushi, 6:20 Meet the Budhists

Meeting Schedule:

        - August 28 - 11:00 am Meeting for Worship - Bonnie to provide refreshments

        - August 28 - Come to the Table at MLK center. Lunch 2-3:00 pm, program 3-5:00 pm

        - September 11 - No meeting for business, 11:00 am Meeting for Worship - Doris to bring snacks.

News of Friends: Bonnie and Doris signed up for the Master Gardener course at Shasta College.  Doris, Kathleen, and Elsie had lunch.  Elsie says that they don’t need help even though George has been house bond. Steve said that Walt Jones is still having problems with shingles, but plans a trip to Maine.
