 I have volunteered with large animal veterinarian, Dr. Jon Higgins, from October, 2009 through the present.  I assisted in dairy and beef cow medicine and reproductive medicine.  I learned the techniques of and assisted in embryo transfer, and viewed embros/ova.  I gave sub-cutaneous injections, drew blood, and performed palpations on cows under the supervision of Dr. Higgins.

Pleasant Valley Veterinary Services

I worked as a veterinary assistant for Dr. Stankovics, from June, 2008 through August, 2009.  My duties included communicating with the client prior to the doctor’s examination and handling patients for physical examinations, drawing blood, administration of vaccines, untrasounds, x-rays, declawings, and tail dockings. I performed grooming procedures such as bathing, clipping nails, and shaving hair.  On surgery days, I prepared the surgical suite, calculated rates and administered IV fluids, positioned the animal on the surgery table, connected blood pressure cuffs and heart rate monitors, and monitored animals during and after surgery.  Other duties included preparing vaccines and medications, developing X-Rays, and taking body temperature.
