Proposals (up to 300 words) should be submitted via the electronic proposal form by 5pm on Monday 5th March 2012.  Please also specify any technical requirements, and the type of contribution:

 

1.                 Paper

Paper presentations should last no longer than 30 minutes, plus 10 minutes for discussion. Papers must be submitted in advance of the conference for inclusion in the conference information pack.

 

2.                 Presentation

Presentations should last no longer than 20 minutes plus 10 minutes for questions.

 

3.                 Workshop/demonstration

Workshops should last no longer than 40 minutes, and allow for discussion and interaction during the 40 minute slot.

 

4.                 Short “PechaKucha” style Presentation

PechaKucha 20×20 is a simple presentation format where you show 20 slides, each for 20 seconds. The slides forward automatically and you talk along to the slides.  These short presentations will be grouped together and shown alongside one another.

 

5.                 Poster Presentations

Posters will be displayed throughout the day and maybe physical or electronic.  Two 30 minute timeslots will be made available for informal discussions in the display area.

 

Please specify the name(s) of the author(s) clearly, as both individual and collaborative contributions within one or across institutions are welcome.

Initial Paper Requirements

All papers submitted to IASTED conferences must be previously unpublished and may not be considered for publication elsewhere at any time during IASTED's review period. Authors are limited to a maximum of three paper submissions.

Initial paper submissions should be full papers. Papers of up to 8 pages in length are included in the conference registration fee. An extra charge will apply for every additional page for papers longer than 8 pages. Authors are responsible for having their papers checked for style and grammar before submitting to IASTED. Papers may be rejected if the language is not satisfactory.

When submitting a paper, complete the online initial paper submission form, designating an author who will attend the conference, and provide four key words to indicate the subject area of your paper. At least one of the key words must be taken from the list of topics provided under Scope, above.

■There is a limit of two contributed submissions per registered author.

You can present your projects in three modalities: in person (either oral or poster presentation) or virtually (not attending authors).

 

■Tables, charts or other graphics may not be included and will be deleted by the editors.

■Abstracts may not be longer than 3500 characters including spaces.

■The minimum characters for an abstract to be reviewed are 900 including spaces

■Authors should indicate their presentation preference: oral, poster or virtual. The Programme Committee reserves the right to decide on the final allocation and presentation method.

■Authors will have their personal access and password codes, in order to manage, edit, etc. their abstracts.

■After having registered as author, you will receive a confirmation by e-mail with your login and password codes.

Specific guidelines for each type of presentation are:

 

1. Papers

Presentation mode: 20 minutes including questions, seminar style

Proceedings length: 2-4 pages (3000 words maximum)

Proposals for papers should describe original research, evidence-based reflective description of practice, theoretical articles, or position papers. Exploration of new ideas including theory, an issue of international interest, synthesis with policy is also welcome. A focus on New Zealand and/or international research of relevance to New Zealand schools and/or tertiary education. The programme committee aim to group papers into one coherent session.

 

2. Posters

Presentation:  A1 size poster to be displayed in the SKYCITY Auckland Convention Centre Foyer

Proceedings length: 2-4 pages (3000 words maximum)

 

Posters are displayed during the conference and a time is set aside for the author/s to attend their poster for discussion and feedback. Proposals for posters may present research in progress, rich descriptions of teaching and learning, or application designs for e-learning. ULearn’s leaders consider posters to be as prestigious as papers, and a better mode for demonstrating software and emerging research. An award will be made for Best Poster.

 

3. Panel

Presentation mode: 40 minutes including questions, seminar style

Proceedings length: 2-4 pages (3000 words maximum)

AV equipment provided: PC, Projector, Internet

A Panel, consisting of 3-4 presenters (including the chair), present their views on a common theme, issue, or question, and then to discusses them with the audience. The Panel must present an opportunity for the audience to hear well reasoned arguments and discussions about pertinent topics as seen from a variety of viewpoints. For example, 'on-line testing' could be a Panel discussion with panelists presenting arguments in support of, and in opposition to, testing. Panel selection will be based on the importance, originality, focus and timeliness of the topic; expertise of proposed panelists; as well as the potential for informative and controversial discussion.

Comunicació final (característiques):

 

Length and file format: maximum of 3000 words in a Word or .rtf file. Your proposal to ULearn Research Stream should not exceed the 3000 word length specified (excluding references and appendices).

Presentation type proposed: Paper, Poster or Panel

Title: Maximum 15 words. Successful proposals will have a title that communicates the contents of the proposal to a wide audience of educators including classroom teachers and policy makers.

Author information: All authors’ details (name, institution, country, email, and optional home page URL). All authors with their institutions and email to be listed under the title and before the abstract. One line per author.

Abstract: Maximum 400 words. The abstract should summarise the scope and conclusions of the proposal in a concise and accurate manner with minimal if any citation of other works. Length must not exceed 400 words, and should be in 11 pt Times New Roman font with a 2.5cm left and right indent.

Main body of paper: Please use Times New Roman font with point size of 11 throughout without any additional formatting except where specified. Left justified the proposal throughout except for headings. Include a maximum of eight descriptive headings in bold (centred), including Abstract, Introduction, Conclusion, References. You are encouraged to include active web links, where relevant, because these proceedings will be published on the web. The reference section at the end of the proposal may be preceded by acknowledgements where relevant. Appendices will only be accepted where they are essential to the proposed presentation and valuable to advance the field.

Tables and figures: Any table and/or figure should be placed as close as possible to its first citation and included within the file. Exhibits should be numbered and identified by a brief description in the title of the table or figure, such as ‘Figure 1: Screen shot of the home page of ….’ The only file types TIFF, JPEG, PNG, or GIF are acceptable. Please embed the graphics into the document.

Citations and references: Citations should be in APA style with the full reference provided in a reference section at the end of the long abstract. For more details on APA style see:

Sufficient detail should be given to enable the reader to locate all publications referred to in the proposal. They should be arranged in alphabetical order by surname of first-named author, then date. Unpublished works or private communications may be mentioned within the text, but omitted from the reference list. Please check to ensure that all URL links are accurate and live at the time of submission.

Acknowledgement: brief acknowledgment of research supervision, mentoring and/or funding support are encouraged and interpreted as a sign of quality assurance.

Abstracts: Abstracts of completed or proposed research in any of the topic areas listed above, or related areas. The abstract for proposed research should include the research objectives, proposed methodology, and a discussion of expected outcomes.

Student Papers: Research done by students in any of the topic areas listed above, or related areas. A total of 3 to 4 pages for a student paper including all figures, tables, and references.

Case Studies: Case studies in any of the topic areas listed above, or related areas. Case studies should not exceed 4 pages including introduction, body of knowledge and conclusion, supported by not more than 10 references.

Work-in-Progress Reports or Proposals for Future Research: Incomplete research or ideas for future research in order to generate discussion and feedback in any of the topic areas listed above, or related areas. A total of 4 to 6 pages for a work-in-progress reports or proposals for future research including all figures, tables, and references.

Reports on Issues Related to Teaching: Reports related to innovative instruction techniques or research related to teaching in any of the topic areas listed above or related areas. The reports should not exceed 4 pages including introduction, body of knowledge and conclusion, supported by not more than 10 references.

Poster Presentations:

 

Final copy of the POSTER slides, as a PDF file with 1 slide per page, is due by August 31, 2012. The poster slides can range from 6 to 20. Poster with more than 20 slides will not be penalised but it strongly advisable to stay with the required slides. An updated poster summary (PDF format) in two-column conference format that is up to 3 pages long should be submitted. The slides/abstract will be made available online via LICE web page.

 

Please submit, the final version of your poster to posters@liceducation.org. [If two PDF files are being submitted, please submit a single ZIP or Tar-gzipped file]

 

The conference will provide the following:

 

A 6 foot by 18 inch table, a chair, Poster Easel/Board (4 feet by 8 feet), 22 inch by 28 inch foam board on which the presenters can stand, and Wireless Network Connectivity.

 

Authors can arrange posters as A4/letter size copies of PPT slides, two 2'x4' posters, etc.

 

The conference will provide 220V power outlets. Demo presenters are responsible for getting their needed voltage conversion adapters, network hubs, etc.

 

The demo teams are responsible for bringing any needed equipment to the conference.

Comunicació final (característiques)

  • Sólo se publicarán las propuestas aceptadas y presentadas en el congreso.
  • La estructura del texto completo será la misma que la utilizada para el resumen de la propuesta.
  • El texto completo de las comunicaciones aceptadas se enviará a través de la misma plataforma. Su contenido figurará en la web (post-congreso) y tendrá una extensión de entre 25.000 y 35.000 caracteres (con espacios).

El resultado final visualizado en la web será responsabilidad de los propios autores, tal y como se especificará a los lectores en la publicación. Para garantizar la calidad del documento le pedimos que siga la plantilla diseñada a tal efecto.

Abstract (característiques)

 

All submission types require an Abstract in the first instance. The Abstract should be a minimum of 300 and no more than 500 words including up to five keywords and keyphrases to be received by 7 April 2012.

Submission:                        Via the online submission form. Please ensure that all required fields are completed. Abstracts must include the proposed title for the paper, the full names first name and surname, not initials); postal addresses and email addresses of all authors and a telephone number for at least one contact author. Please indicate clearly if the contact author is not the lead author.

Comunicació final (característiques)

Full paper:                           Only required when the abstract has been selected and not to be more than 5,000 words including abstract, keywords and references (the Harvard referencing rules need to be followed). Submission date will be no later than 26 May 2012. Papers should be submitted as .doc or .rtf file attachments by email to the conference manager, Carol Sheasby.
