Poppy Seed Star Rolls
yield: 10 rolls
Ingredients:
500g/1lb1oz bread flour
1 ½ teaspoons dry yeast
1 ½ teaspoons salt
350ml/11.8 fl oz water
1 egg lightly beaten with 1 tablespoon of milk to brush the rolls
poppy seeds to sprinkle the rolls
Directions:
Mix/knead all ingredients very well until you get a smooth dough. Cover and leave in a warm place to rise for about 1-1 ½ hours or until doubled in size.
Tip the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for a while.
Divide the dough into ten equal portion. Make each one into a small ball, flat it a little and then using a short side of clean and lightly oiled credit card (or any other gift card etc.) make a three cuts in the middle (like a star). Once the three cuts have been made you turn the dough inside out so that the points of the star are on the outside. There is your star:) Turn it out. Continue with each roll.
Place the star rolls on a baking sheet and leave to rise (for about 30 minutes).
Then brush with the beaten egg, sprinkle with poppy seeds and bake in a preheated oven 230C (445F) for about 12 minutes.
Cool on a wire rack.
You can freeze them.
Enjoy!:)
