Children will sort small and large objects.

- Direct observation of children who can sort by the attributes of small and large.

- Results of activity.

- Display red and blue paper socks of the same size.  

- Describe and explain the definition of “sorting.”

- Use paper socks to model how to sort by color.

- Introduce vocabulary words: small, little, large, big.

- Display different sizes of socks.

- Small Group Activity:  Have groups of children sort socks into two groups by size: small and large.

- Independent practice: Sort pictues by size.

Children will identify which of two objects is larger or smaller and which of three objects is largest or smallest.

- Direct observation of who can easily identify the larger/largest and smaller/smallest objects in a group.

- Demonstrate crayons of different sizes.

- Discuss how the crayons are the same and different.

- Use word cards to label crayons as “smaller” and “larger.”

- Repeat using 3 different size of chairs.  Have children label the chairs with “smallest” and “largest.”

- Use the pictures from “The Three Bears” and identify the largest and smallest chairs and beds.

- Activity: Compare sizes. Identify and circle the larger object and X out the smaller object.

- How are the crayons the same and how are they different?

- Show how to sort the pictures from “The Three Bears.”

- Which other objects in our classroom can you sort from largest to smallest?
