Technical Advisor/Co-Founder to help develop GroundTruth
Seeking a brilliant, purpose-driven technologist to guide development of a minimally-viable product of a mobile research platform that can be used to attract funding, identify potential customers, test pricing, and build a team -- first as a board member and advisor, and possibly as technical co-founder/CTO following the prototype and A-round funding phase.
About you: You read code like poetry in numerous languages, and can easily distinguish hacks from bards. You’re an avid and successful practitioner of Lean Methodology & Design Thinking.
You know what’s doable using freely available open source code, API’s and platforms -- but dream about what’s possible. You can geek out on the latest devices, but believe that only when technology becomes boring does it become socially interesting.
You’ve built a wide array of software platforms, but have a demonstrated passion for all things mobile, and lay awake at night wondering what kinds of amazing things we can build for the five billion SMS and voice-enabled “feature” phones in use today. Ideally, you’ve built integrated SMS/IVR/mobile web platforms in the developing world.
You also believe that the best way to serve a mission is to build something that is scalable and sustainable.
If this is you, let’s talk. You will play midwife to a new mobile research and engagement platform and will help decide how to architect, build and ultimately scale it on a shoestring budget -- by artfully cobbling together existing platforms and code.
DUTIES
- Decide on core technologies for the platform
- Define roles and structure of team
- Read code and frequently check in to review Minimal Viable Product road map
- Communicate tech strategy to potential funders, investors, team members
REQUIREMENTS
- Solid lean startup & design thinking experience
- Experience building SMS, MMS, USSD applications
- Experience scaling applications
- Demonstrated thought leadership in the ICT4D field

Rockstar Developer for Social Change
Seeking a brilliant web/mobile developer to build an initial minimally-viable product of a mobile research platform.
You’ve built a wide array of software platforms, but have a demonstrated passion for all things mobile, and lay awake at night wondering what kinds of amazing things we can build for the five billion SMS and voice-enabled “feature” phones in use today. You know what’s doable using freely available open source code, API’s and platforms -- but dream about what’s possible. You can geek out on the latest devices, but believe that only when technology becomes boring does it become socially interesting, and you care as much about building a sustainable and scalable system as you do about the specific features themselves.
You love clean code, open source, and solid versioning/testing/deployment systems.
You speak multiple languages of code, and have a few favorites.
DUTIES
- Build the MVP - from the web interface and the mobile apps and tools for end users.
- Research and implement existing OSS tools and APIs
- Work with the Technology Advisor to build the back office - code repositories, automated testing, and all the rest of the hidden things that, if done right, make everything else easy.
REQUIREMENTS
- Solid lean startup & design thinking experience
- Experience building SMS, MMS, USSD applications
- Android app experience a plus
- Extensive programming experience in multiple languages (PHP, Ruby, and jQuery+Javascript)
- Able to hack out some decent-looking HTML/CSS
- Familiarity with existing SMS integration tools a plus (FrontlineSMS, Twilio, Ushahidi), as well as content management frameworks like Drupal
- Experience scaling applications
- Comfortable on the command-line
