| Page 26 | Lab Day Children will make frost and compare frost and dew. | - Observe if children can follow directions during the experiment. - Observe if children can make and confirm predictions. - Results of activity sheet. | - Whole group: Children will answer questions regarding the seasons and their findings during the winter season. Children will make predictions on how frost is made. - Experiment: Children will work in pairs and will use a plastic cup to mix crushed ice, rock salt and water. They will mix rapidly and then left alone for observation. As the cups are getting cold the children will breathe on the outside of the cups. After 20 min. they will observe the frost on the outside of cups. They will use magnifying glasses to look at ice crystals. Children will confirm their predictions. - Activity: Draw a picture of what happened first, next, and last during the frost experiment. | - Why did the frost form on the outside of the cup? - Where did the water droplets come from on the outside of the cup? - What surprised you about making frost? |
