Proposed Duties of Street Flood Wardens

There will be two Wardens for each zone who will be given a list of streets under their responsibility. They can also enlist the help of another Warden if they want and are able. Please pass on their details to Linda.

The preparation stage will involve visiting each property to go through the yellow Household Emergency Plan and to provide assistance in completing it if necessary. Please encourage the households to do this but emphasise that it is entirely voluntary and that it will be a great help for the Emergency Services. This will take place over time as people will be out or away. You will have a matching Information Sheet (blue) for each house and will ask if they give permission to take down the details of the all occupiers and contact details for us to hold on a database. It may be easier to fill in some information from your local knowledge beforehand such as your own details on the Plan. Please contact Sue/Linda if you are unsure of how to go about this

This information will be recorded so it is important that permission is given.

An Emergency Pack supplied by CCF will be given at the same time and the Flood Warden will give information on it if necessary. Mention that the bag belongs to the house rather than the residents and that it must be left behind when moving on.

The blue Information Sheet will be passed on to the Linda for entry on the database who will record the information and note the vulnerable members of your zone. The sheet will be copied and returned to you to be kept in your file along with a second copy just in case. You will be given a register of residents and contacts details to be kept in your file (a blank register is in your file but you will be given an updated one from the database on a regular basis). Please make notes of properties not occupied or no longer there on the register.

You will also liaise with any Social Organisations such as Housing Associations etc so that no-one is left unattended nor effort duplicated.

Follow up yearly. Try to be aware of your neighbourhood and forward any information which may be useful.

On Flood Alert

The Environment Agency will contact the Coordinator (Sue Cashmore) who will contact yourselves. If you see a flood or risk of flood but have not been contacted, phone the Coordinator and the EA.

Be available to take calls (on your mobile phone)

Liaise with other volunteer groups/3rd Sector organisations

Check on residents and note on your register if anyone is away or has leaves their homes.

If the flood risk is such that residents will need to move belongings upstairs, contact your Help and Support numbers. Pass on your information to the Coordinator.

Remember!

To safeguard yourself, your family and your property as priority

Leave dangerous duties to the Emergency Services
