Looking down the virtual road:

where education is right now, and where it is likely headed

A J Kelton

20/06/2011 - 21:00 - 22:00 (horário de Brasília)

Resumo:

Since the early days of text-based digital environments, educators have found ways to make use of virtual worlds in teaching and learning.  The advent of the graphical 3D environment, such as Active Worlds and Second Life, saw a significant uptick in the number of instructors beginning to think outside the physical classroom and into the virtual world learning space.  Now that serious research has begun into the use and efficacy of virtual worlds as a teaching and learning tool, what direction are we moving in now.  This session will briefly review past practices, show some examples of educational uses of Second Life, and will conclude by considering the slow by steady move in open source virtual worlds.
