British Literature--not my favorite, so I will try to make it as exciting as possible for both of our sakes.
Our goal for the next 10 months: GRADUATION!--But, I want to make you a more intelligent and skillful reader and writer--for college and/or for life--which is truly necessary to lead a fulfilling and informed existence. This class will be easy for you as long as you stay organized and on top of things—don’t get behind. It is amazing how much you can learn when you listen and stay focused.
 
Materials: All students must be prepared for class each day with: a pen, paper and a binder with dividers. You also need 3 colored highlighters, a dictionary and thesaurus (online is fine). I want you to create a Google Docs Account as I take most assignments through email. (I will also do some editing for you in this way for drafts). If you do not have the Internet at home, see me.
 
Grading System: Essays: 30% Quizzes: 25% Homework: 10%

      Tests: 25% Daily work: 10%

Homework: No exceptions!! Please don’t try and give me excuses; they will not work. All assignments will be on the blog: eng12macks.blogspot.com

• There is homework every night Mon.-Thurs.—it may be big, it may be small, but it all counts. This does not mean there will never be homework on a Friday.
• You must hand it to me at the BEGINNING of class—if not, too late.
• I do not take late daily assignments--only major assignments can be made up.
• Absences: you have one class day to make up the work. YOU need to get the assignments from a friend or the blog —see me after, before, or between classes with questions—not during class.
• Work that is to be done in class cannot be done at home.
• All work needs to be done as stated in the directions: Must be done CORRECTLY AND OF HIGH, 12th GRADE-LEVEL QUALITY!!!!!!

Notes:

• Most days when you come in there will be notes to copy or practice to turn in
• Please keep these organized: you will need them later. They are not busy work.
• Handouts can be found with me or as a link in the blog
• No extra copies will be given—1 per customer

Tests/Quizzes/Writing Assessments:

• ****There will be a quiz or test every Monday on what we learned the previous week 
• One low and one ABSENT quiz grade will be dropped. If you miss more than that, come to school more often. Tests cannot be made up without a medical excuse.

Essays:

• All essays need to be FINAL COPY QUALITY or you will be asked to do it over again. This means typed, double-spaced. You will have the opportunity to rewrite essays, under most conditions, for a better grade.
• There will also be writing assessments done during class.

Discipline Policy: Listen: I feel like this is old news by now. I hate to call parents but I will if I have to, so please don’t make me unless it is to tell them how great you are. There will be ABSOLUTELY NO DISRESPECT TO ANY PERSON OR MATERIALS IN THIS ROOM. I don’t care if you are kidding or not, it is not funny.

• And the main thing—you are not a kid—accept the consequences of your actions. If you are late, you are late. If you are on the phone it’s gone. End of story.
