Outline

Following on from the ideas outlined in this post, we’re looking to pilot a new way of teaching ICT in Yr 7 from Sept ‘12

Principles

What that might look like in Practice

  1. Students choose from a menu of tasks in Moodle.

  1. In some cases they will be able to move straight on to the part where the demonstrate their skills. This earns them a digital badge which is stored in some kind of ‘digital backpack’.

  1. In other cases students will work through a series of tasks / tutorials until they are able to demonstrate the required outcomes.

  1. At that point they can choose to either go on further with the same topic, develeoping deeper learning of a particular aspect of ICT, or switch to a new topic, focussing instead of breadth of coverage.

The role of the teacher

In this new system the role of the teacher would be transformed. They would be responsible for:

Themes / Topics

Possible themes and topics are being sketched out on this page

Longer term vision

This is rolled out across KS3. The same menu is available to students from all three years, and in some cases students may be able to collaborate not just between classes, but also between year groups.

The tasks required for the ICT ESW L2 will be built in the system to reduce the burden in Year 9
