Playing duple (two) and triple (three) beats simultaneously is called a hemiola. Learn to play the hemiola pattern we discussed in class (as follows):

Play one part with one hand, the other part with the other hand at the same time.
Form groups of two or three people, and practice playing the hemiola pattern together. Then, take turns every four times through the pattern to allow one person to improvise a rhythm while the other(s) continue the hemiola pattern. Remember to make sure you are able to switch from the pattern to your improvisation back to your pattern in the right time, in four bar phrases.
Also practice counting/feeling the pattern with a 2-beat pulse and a 3-beat pulse. See if you can alternate between the two pulses.
