Moodle for Teachers Orientation (M4T-O)

M4T-O is the first of a series of online courses for teachers to learn how to teach and manage, create, and facilitate Moodle courses. The courses that follow are: M4T-B (Beginners), M4T-I (Intermediate), and M4T-A (Advanced). The courses are hosted on Integrating Technology for Active Lifelong Learning website (IT4ALL). The orientation course provides participants, who have never used Moodle course and learning management system with the knowledge and skills to navigate a Moodle course. Participants learn about and access resources, activities, and blocks. The participants view the course from the perspective of a student. Taking on the role of a student allows the participants of the course to experience online learning so they can better understand how students feel.

Moodle courses can be used to facilitate instruction and learning in face-to-face (computer rooms), blended (face-to-face), and fully online courses. M4T courses include instructional design and what it means to be an online learner and teacher. IT4ALL embraces social learning and promotes lifelong learning skills. The participants at IT4ALL are provided with opportunities to become actively engaged in the content, with their peers, and the Moodle expert as they learn about online learning and how to facilitate online classes with Moodle. The facilitators are experts on Moodle. Their role is to facilitate, guide, and encourage the participants to develop independent lifelong learning skills.

The courses in this series are asynchronous (not dependent on time) and not synchronous (time dependent) learning environments. The asynchronous classes are conducted on the Moodle and the synchronous classes are conducted on WizIQ within the Moodle. The course tasks engage the participants in reading texts and viewing video tutorials, writing and responding to posts in the discussion forums, and sharing their work. Participants learn how to work with screensharing tools so they can  develop artifacts. The artifacts may be shared by being uploaded to the course content folders as files (text, audio, video, and image) on the Internet (Blogs, Wikis, Youtube).

Reflections are a big part of online learning. Participants are invited to make suggestions, add comments, and most importantly, ask questions. Sharing questions will help both participants and facilitators learn and grow.

The tuition for each of the 4 M4T courses is $20. Certificates of Completion are available for those who complete all the course requirements for an additional $30. Please contact Dr. Nellie Deutsch for further information about joining the next course or about a customized course for your organization.
