FIELD TRIPS

Preparation and Rating System

Great Salt Lake Audubon offers multiple birding field trips every month on various days of the week. They range from half-day outings to weekend adventures. Our field trips are open to members and nonmembers alike. Anyone is welcome who enjoys nature. You do not have to be a birding expert. We enjoy introducing folks to the joys of spotting birds, watching their behavior and figuring out their identity

Physical Difficulty - Our field trips are rated for physical difficulty.

EASY - little or no walking, smooth paths.

MODERATE - 1 mile or more, possible rough terrain.

DIFFICULT - extensive walking that could include rough terrain and significant changes in altitude.

Sign-up Ahead-of-Time - Please call the leader to let him/her know you are interested in going and to provide contact information in case of changes in schedule.

What to Bring - It’s a good idea to bring a small backpack with water, a snack, rain gear, hat, sunscreen, field guide, bug repellent and binoculars. Wear suitable shoes. Subdued colored clothing is preferable but not essential. For full day outings bring a lunch.

What about Bad Weather?  Weather may require changes. Trips may go in light rain or drizzle but that is at the discretion of the leader. If cancelling, the leader will contact you at the number you provide. You may also call the leader up to 1/2 hour before departure if in doubt. Whether you choose to go is up to you.

What about Transportation? Carpools are encouraged. Come to the stated meeting place 5 minutes before departure time so carpool arrangements can be made. Carpool expense is shared among driver and riders. Entry fees are shared equally by driver and riders.
