Welcome Proteges!

So - you are either working in the maritime industry or are thinking of doing so? Great - this is the place for you. On this site, we call people like you “Proteges” or “Mentees”. Here you will find hundreds and hundreds of amazing maritime professionals with incredible levels of experience, all willing to share their knowledge freely. We call them “Mentors”. They are incredible people and we are all very fortunate to be able to take advantage of their wisdom.

In our community you will be able to find a mentor and ask questions of him/her or the community as a whole.

Getting Started

To get started as a protege you need to do four things:

  1. Join this site. To do this, simply click the “Sign up” link near the top-right of the homepage. You’ll be asked to answer a few questions.
  2. Edit your account profile. We require you to add an image, and fill out your description so people know who you are.
  3. Look for a Mentor. You can do this whenever you are ready - no rush. To do so, click the “Find a Mentor” button on the homepage and follow the instructions. You can choose to connect with those suggested by the matching algorithm, or with those you find through a search.
  4. Invite Other Proteges: Invite everyone you know who is looking for a mentor. Get the word out. There is no community without community members.

Then What?

I suggest you visit the “discussions” area regularly. There you can ask questions of, and connect with the general community. There will be lots of other people, like you, who want to learn more about progressing through the ranks of the maritime industry. Remember - you can often learn a lot from your peers as well as your mentor. Find people, talk with them, learn and contribute. That is what this site is all about.

Also, Be sure to read the document “Community Overview”. This will help you understand the role of mentor and protege and how each role is carried out on this site.

There are no hard and fast rules, other than being respectful and using this site for its intended purpose - being mentored and sharing knowledge.

Thanks for being here. I hope this site and the people here help you as you grow in this wonderful industry!
