Scottish National Table Tennis League

Rules and Regulations

  1. COMMITTEE
  1. The league shall be managed by a committee approved by the board of Table Tennis Scotland.
  2. The committee shall consist of no fewer than 3 people nor more than 7 persons to include a chairperson, a Secretary, a Match Secretary, a representative from Table Tennis Scotland.
  3. The committee shall have power to decide any questions arising from these regulations and any matter concerning the conduct of the competition which is not specifically covered by these regulations.
  1. ENTRY
  1. Any team wishing to enter the Scottish National League must submit their entry fee no later than 31st May. Any team wishing to enter must submit their entry by completing a team registration form, which must be signed by the club chairman and secretary.  A minimum of 3 player registration forms must accompany a team registration form  - these must be signed by the player as well as the team secretary., this must received by 31st July.
  2. Players must be registered to Table Tennis Scotland by 31st December.
  3. Any player not registered by the due date will not be able to compete in the remaining fixtures of that season and will be deleted from the teams ranking list.
  4. No team will be permitted to compete in the Scottish National League until the appropriate fees have been received and the appropriate forms and been completed and approved by the committee.

  1. CONSITITUTION OF DIVISIONS
  1. The number of teams in each division shall be no higher than 8 teams.
  2. No club may have more than 2 teams in any division.
  3. The league shall be completed over the rounds of fixtures as per the Table Tennis Scotland Calendar, preferably not more than 5 weeks apart.
  1. LEAGUE PLACINGS
  1. A team shall be awarded 2 league points for a win and 1 League point for a draw
  2. Position in the league shall be determined by the number of league points won, if two or more teams are equal on League points, then of difference between individual matches won and lost. If still equal on the difference between games won and lost.
  1. PROMOTION AND RELEGATION
  1. At the end of the season the highest placed team in each division below the top division shall be promoted and their place taken by the lowest placed team in the next higher division, but no more than two teams shall be relegated from any division of eight or fewer teams.
  2. If there are divisions that have too many or too few teams, the committee is empowered to adjust the allocation of teams to divisions, except that no team shall have their promotion cancelled.
  1. WITHDRAWAL FROM THE LEAGUE
  1. If a team withdraws from the league before it has completed it fixtures the record of that team shall be completely expunged and the team will forfeit the team fee paid at the start of the season.
  1. STARTING TIME
  1. The starting time for matches played under the Scottish National League format shall be decided by the committee. The committee secretary shall notify the clubs in writing of such times.
  1. PLAYING FORMAT
  1. Each team shall consist of 3 players.
  2. A team match will consists of 6 individual matches, all of which shall be played, each individual match shall consist of 5 games.
  3. All individual matches shall be played.
  4. No player shall be allowed to take part in more than one match played simultaneously in the same venue.
  1. PLAYER RANKING
  1. By the 30th July, each team shall submit to the Committee Secretary a ranking listing of all its registered players in order of merit for approval of the committee, which has the right to re-rank at it discretion.
  2. The ranking list of each team shall remain unaltered throughout the duration of the season, save that a team may, not later than 14 days before the official date of the first  matches in the second half of the fixture list, apply for a revision to be made of that teams ranking list – subject to the approval of the committee.
  3. Except for the provision of 9.2, a Ranking list may not be altered  during the season except by the deletion of players who cease to be registered for the club and insertion of players newly registered for the club.

9.4        Where a club has more than one team competing in the Scottish National League

(a)        The top 3 players in a clubs ranking list shall only be eligible to compete in the highest team.

(b)        The top 6 players in a clubs ranking list shall only be eligible to compete in the 1st and 2nd teams.

  1. FORFEITURE FOR LATENESS
  1. If a team is not ready to play by 30 minutes after the scheduled starting time it shall forfeit the match.
  2. If a team is not ready to play by the scheduled starting time, it shall forfeit one individual match per each 20 minutes (or part of that period) that has elapsed, since the starting time , at the time of the team’s arrival. If the period of 30 minutes has elapsed, Regulation 10.1 shall apply.
  3. MATCH RESULTS

All match sheets are to be handed to the match referee or other designated official.

  1. PRIZE MONEY

The committee shall issue details of the prize fund for the season no later than 1st December.

  1. EUROPEAN QUALIFICATION

The club/team winning the highest division in the Scottish National League shall be eligible to compete in the ETTU CUP at its own cost. The League shall support any such entry in writing to Table Tennis Scotland.
