Schroeder YMCA Swim Team

1. The Schroeder YMCA Swim Team finished the fall campaign at the 2012 Chesapeake Elite Pro-Am which is held annually in Oklahoma City, OK.  13 athletes made the trip and produced 4 State, 12 Team and 2 Meet records!  In team scoring, SSTY was 3rd in the Combined Team scoring, 2nd in the Men’s Team and 9th in the Women’s Team Division.  Read more

The Fifth Annual Friends of Schroeder Campaign is beginning with a goal of $25,000!  This year's total is already $5,950.  A mix of fundraising, training fees and other program revenue, and revenue from either hosting events or being the host site for events has provided enough income to offset the $1,000,000 in expenses annually.

Schroeder and it’s programs will continue to depend on support from its Friends to help fund programs we know are important and are not affordable to some and to help underwrite the costs of the facility’s operation.  The Friends of Schroeder Campaign is an annual sustaining campaign that has two purposes:

1. Helping kids and families who can not afford the whole cost of participation

2. Underwriting the ongoing operation of the facility

We are fulfilling the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center Ltd’s mission of securing the facility for future generations, delivering programs that promote character development and preparing members for a successful college career and for life everyday.

3. The WSAC Holiday Pizza Party is coming!

• Please bring in a canned good(s) for a chance to win a gift from Elsmore Aquatics and qualify for the ice cream sundae party following morning practice on Saturday, January 5th (held in the kitchen area).  Pizza will be provided by Rocky Rococo. All sign ups are still good. If you need to be added on or can not go please email Matt Miller.    

4. Olympic Gold Medalist Anthony Ervin could come to our A+ Meet in February.  He would be up for a variety of activities other than racing super fast which could include: go to your child’s school for a presentation, give a stroke clinic to your/your child’s group on Monday or Tuesday after the meet, have dinner at your home, etc.  If you are interested in underwriting some of Anthony’s expense or appearance fee please contact Dave.  Anthony is coming off the 2012 SCM World Championships in Istanbul, Turkey where he was a 3 x medalist.  Ervin was also a Gold Medalist in the 2000 Olympic Games and was a member of the 2012 USA Team in London.  Anthony will be on the cover of the January Issue of Swimming World.

1. Senior swimmers may compete in the meet but only on Sunday.  We will train on Saturday.

7. National YMCA Championship meet info is available.  No flights have been made yet... bing says to wait as of 12/18.

8. Wednesday Morning Water Polo - coming as a pilot in January - open to all ages 13 & Up.  Think about it!

9. Welcome home for the Holidays to Schroeder’s Athletes in College - it is always great to see you!

10. If you are interested in updating and maintaining the record boards would you please send Matt or Dave a note?  It’s not too hard or time consuming.

11. The first Yoga workshop went well.   10 athletes took part in the first one.  The next is on 12/22, Yoga Workshops will be on Saturday mornings after masters practice for adults and a second session at 9:30 AM for the senior team when there are not meets or holidays.  The plan is charge $6.00 or one punch of the dryland card for each if coming to both sessions or $10.00 for one.  Read more about it and sign up.

1. The deadline to sign up for the Odd Ball Challenge swim meet January 12-13 is this Friday December 21st. You may sign your swimmer up by clicking ‘Edit Commitment’ next to the meet name on the front page of the website. If you cannot attend both days please specify which day you cannot attend in the notes box.
