Dear sixth grade choir parent,

Welcome back!!  I hope that your summer was relaxing and filled with memorable times.  I am looking forward to working with your child in the 2010-2011 school year at Pleasant Hill Intermediate School.  I am expecting this year to be full of excitement, enthusiasm, motivation, and learning!

Your child will be involved in many enriching choral music experiences this year.  This course is focused mainly on teaching students to develop and strengthen their music reading skills and vocal technique, to work together in a choral ensemble, and to practice and perform successful choral music.  Some classroom experiences will include singing warm-ups, sight-reading, actively listening to and evaluating music, learning about different styles of music, connecting music experiences to everyday life and other subjects, and singing quality choral literature.

Performances will be plentiful for sixth grade choir members.  Throughout the year, sixth grade choir members will perform in three choir concerts, a community performance, and a spring musical.  Please note that this is a performance based class, and therefore, students are required to attend performance events or complete a makeup assignment.  More extensive information including performance dates will be available to you in the sixth grade choir handbook.  Performance information can also be found on the Music Notes Blog (information below).  

Sixth grade students have another opportunity to perform throughout the year if they are interested.  The Pleasant Hill Intermediate School Honor Choir is an auditioned fifth and sixth grade choir of about 40 members that performs at school and community events from September to March. Information regarding the choir is also available on the Music Notes Blog.
