For to us, a child is born

Isaiah 9:6.

For to us a child is born,    to us a son is given,    and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called    Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,    Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

• Birth of child is great news?
• Msn Daniel Lee’s son, Matthew 8 years of marriage. Wait for 8 years. Joy!
• This child….. long awaited child for couple hundred years. Can you imagine the joy?
• Birth of a son!... even greater if you have 4 daughters straight.
• Birth of a child… new beginning, new hope. In one gynecologist’ clinic….”We know that God has hope for the world as long as he sends babies to the world.”
• My feelings about the hospital…. So comfortable and happy place.
• Special child… even though all children are special. He is the Messiah. Gen 3:15… this child is woman’s offspring who will crush Satan’s head.
• Messiah – Child….. not matching image. Child…weak, humble, non threatening, vulnerable. God’s work is mysterious.
• Jesus was born in a manger. God almighty became a man.
• God gave his son….. What did God give us? A box of chocolate? House in suburb? 6 figure income job? Ph Degree?... much more! Sometimes do you as a question?... “What did God give to me?” or you think God is stingy?
• God gave his son and he is not sparing anything for you. You can have confidence of his love.

• Jesus’ different names.
• Wonderful counselor

• Who is counselor? Someone you can talk to and someone who can give you direction or wisdom. Have you ever met with a counselor?
• School counselor…. Help planning for school or adjust to school well.
• Marriage counselor…marriage issues.
• Career counselor… advice and recommend about jobs. Even resume making.
• In life…. We need counseling. We have many issues and questions.
• Who do you go to when you need counseling?... to someone who is knowledgeable or wise or care for you….Me? (I talk to my wife first).
• Cost of going to the bad counselor… my wife’s school counselor made mistake and costed my wife one more class.
• King David…. Asked God’s direction even at battle. (should I attack or should not? If so how and what direction?)
• Jesus…. Wonderful counselor.
• Qualification of being a wonderful counselor?

• Willing to listen? (always welcomes you. Never say, “I am booked, please come next time). No appointment needed.
• Knows me. Not just throwing he common sense. Jesus knew a Samaritan woman.
• Lead me to eternal life. (ultimate benefit)…. Bad counselor leads me to destruction.

• Jesus… wonderful counselor (you can ask any questions. No questions is too difficult to answer. Even the most difficult question on life and death… he can answer. Confucius’ case of death question… I even do not know about life well, how can I know about death?)
• Jesus promised the Holy Spirit…. Holy Spirit is called the counselor. He will guide us to all truth.
• Do you have questions and issues and problems in life?.... bring it to Jesus. He is a wonderful counselor.

• Mighty God.

• He was a poor man…. But he is a mighty God.
• Mighty means… powerful, able to do anything.
• Man’s effort to display mighty power

• Tallest building (Dubai in coming January)
• Fastest person…Bolt 9.69”
• Mighty power of money
• Constant struggle to challenge the limit

• Jesus’ power has different dimension.

• Opened the eyes of the blind (not ophthalmology treatment)
• Feeding 5000 with five loaves and two fish.
• Calm down the storm
• Raise the dead
• Pinnacle of his power (His own resurrection!). Conquered death.
• This Jesus said, “Have faith in God!” “Everything is possible for him who believes.”
• Do you know that Jesus is the mighty God?

• Everlasting Father.

• Everybody needs father.
• Father… we find security and care.
• But fathers have limit….My own father… will give me persimmon and oyster. That’s all he can do for me.  
• No one wants to be a bad father. They just have too many personal problems. (good father or bad father)
• No father…. Insecure. No discipline. Hard to make a difficult decision.
• Jesus is the everlasting father… he is with us all the time. We fear nothing because he is our father.
• Think about little children…. They brag about their fathers. You can have confidence since you have such awesome father.

• Prince of peace.

• Jesus brings peace.
• Peace… what we really need/ want.
• Uncertainty…. Life. Unpredictable boss… day is difficult. (my difficulty with my boss… I don’t sometime know what is in his mind)
• Ex) one doctor and his clinic staff (they called his wife for his mood).
• How Jesus brings peace?

• Peace between God and men (we have peace with God). Sin.. war against God.
• Peace between men and men (we learn to forgive)
• Peace within myself (no more self condemnation)

• Peace in the world…. Conditional. If condition is removed, no more peace.
• Jesus’ peace… beyond human condition.
• Where is peace?... in Urbana champaign? In Chicago? In Korea? In Nice restaurant? In your lab? In Jesus.

• Jesus is God’s give for us. God gave us everything we need through Jesus. So he is called, Christ. Christ means everything to everybody.
• Is Jesus everything to you? He is the one you truly need today.
