WG Board Meeting 8/9/10
In attendance were Bill Bladen, Lee Cagle, Bonnie Bear, Anneke Valk, and Julie Leibel.
Lee Cagle presented information on the banking accounts. At the end of June, we had total money available of $161K. Our largest disbursements to date were to SwimAtlanta, as expected. We had unexpected repairs of $2800. At the end of July, we had $148,407.40. We think that we will have a range of $100-110K left at the end of the year to roll over. Bill proposed that we look at our capital projects and bring forward a substantial project. That would be the resurfacing of the pool deck. We would have another board meeting in September to approve this. Anneke would want to include the fencing in this project. Bill commended Lee on a good job of keeping the financials in shape. Bill was delighted to see the financial statements.
Anneke said she has received a request to keep the pool open later in the season. She sent an email to Jeff to find out what it would cost to keep the pool open until Sept. 24th. Cobb County Schools are out that week. She will also check the lifeguard’s logs to see how much usage the pool has been getting.
Bill made a motion that we remove the iron staircase that goes up above the restrooms, closing it off with a continuation of the railing to prevent access. It is apparent that people do not seem to understand that we have a problem, and that we are trying to use that surface safely and without further damage. The surface was punctured recently and cost $2800. to have it repaired. It was decided that we could have a consensus of opinion and then will email this motion out to both Sandy Crabtree and Joe DeSantis for a vote.
Bill explained that we cannot control the behaviors of everyone at the pool/clubhouse area.
Bill raised the point that we need to be asking ourselves and our neighbors who will be on the board next year. Lee will do an e-blast re: this. Bonnie suggested that we have a Labor Day party to close the pool, and make an announcement re: board openings.
Bill said we have a mobile metal ramp, which folds up and is in the storage room. This is to connect the pavilion to the clubhouse.
Anneke will get the grill replaced this week also. She also recommended changing the fencing around the pool to extend the pool decking and to secure the area.
WE have a violation of the covenants regarding fencing. Cobb County Code Enforcement has been notified to inspect this. IF they are not in violation, Bill would like to retain a lawyer to tell us, from a pure business perspective, what recourse we have.
Lee will find out what this will cost us and get back to us.
Potential date for the Murder Mystery dinner is Oct. 23rd
Bill observed that we need to get more neighbors involved in committees. If they will not get involved, we will need to keep raising the dues to be able to afford hiring outside people to do these functions. Bonnie and Anneke agreed that the parties in the neighborhood are important opportunities to take advantage of.
Bill turned the meeting over the Bonnie to hear about her ideas. The options are Labor Day Weekend on Sunday, Aug. 29th, Sat., Sept 4th or Sun., Sept. 5th. Lee and Bonnie discussed having everyone bring their own
Bill asked that when Lee puts out info to neighbors whose email we do not have, that she list our website and ask that they opt in. Bonnie would also like a sign to be on either end of the neighborhood saying something about upcoming events, with “check the website for details”. Bill said Jill Ferst would like to help with this, as well as someone else that Dee would remember. He also wanted to be sure that if we can afford it, and we need it, that we hire someone to do the cleanup after the parties. The general schedule of events is the end of pool party in September, the Halloween Party in October, the Wine and Cheese party in November, and the Holiday Party in December.
Bill suggested that we find a way to save $5,000. in the budget for next year. We need to go in to our annual meeting with some ideas about how to control our expenses.
Our next meeting will be Tuesday, September 28th at 7:30pm.
