Was gonna play the amazing Circulator Durant but meesie offered to lend me Magnezone/Eel which was awesome, so I went with that since I practiced quite a bit with it online. Second tournament ever though...so different.
Round 1 - vs Tamao with Lanturn/Eelektrik/Thundurus/Tornadus
I look at the pairings, see Tamao, do a bit of a mental "oh no way" then just head to the table. It was a lot of fun meeting him and hanging out with him all day, and seeing people switch from Dutch to English just to make sure he wasn't missing out. We both started pretty well but he got ahead simply because his deck is just that bit faster. I noticed my only Switch and Thundurus were prized which was quite huge, but I can't complain since it was certainly possible to play more than 1 of each of those.
What sealed it was me bringing up the wrong Magnezone (I had one with 2 Lightning, and one with 1), and he obviously didn't let me take it back, which is understandable. The game actually went to time simply because I was double checking quite a bit, but it didn't affect the outcome. No regrets.
0-1
Round 2 - Erwin/Edwin/something with Hydreigon/Kyurem/Unown D
Before he shuffles he actually declumps on me, literally saying "just making sure it's random", so I just told him some people do mind that and shuffled his deck a little after he gave it to me to cut. He didn't ever do it during the game. He gets some very quick Hydreigons but since he plays absolutely no real Energy acceleration "other than DCE", I'm not under any real pressure. At one point he has a Kyurem with 10 dmg from a Rainbow, and I see him Communicate a DCL half into his deck, so I take my Zekrom with 90 damage and suicide it into the Kyurem just to not give him the option to play around with it. In the end he kind of comes close to a comeback, except not really...only faced two Berserker Blades the whole game. The other half of DCL turned out to be prized.
1-1
Round 3 - Lia with Reshiram/Typhlosion/Ninetales
I got cheap prizes with Thundurus early on, and she says her Typhlosions are prized (dunno how many). She does get Ninetales out but no Typhlosion until very late. I take forever on the last few turns just to make sure I have enough energy to actually Lost Burn for the last 2 prizes but she didn't seem to mind.
2-1
Round 4 - ??? with Durant
I think he tells me he took a round 1 loss for being late due to train delays. Nice guy. Actually played Alph Lito FOUR on turn 1 and then happily Collectors/Dual Balls for the whole Durant brigade and starts Devouring for 4 on turn 2. I actually started with Zekrom which was fortunate, so after turn 3 I'm basically just taking a prize every turn. Did have to Sage once though.
I am a little annoyed when he Ns away my hand with the Super Rod I held onto, then Devours it away. Later on he has a Durant active with no less than 2 special Metals and an Eviolite, so my 80 dmg Zekrom couldn't KO it with Bolt Strike. I Catcher around it once but I don't have any for my next turn. I end up Bolt Striking to KO it, which allows his next Durant to KO me with Vicegrip. I dunno why I didn't even consider the option of just Outraging for 60 there. From there I try charging up a Thundurus but to no real good, he Catchers the 1 retreat Tynamo I had on the bench to protect myself from Seeker shenanigans...I should've taken the 0 retreat one, and actually thought I did. That makes for 2 crucial misplays that end up costing me the game.
2-2
Round 5 - ??? with Zoroark/Beartic/Vanilluxe/Victini
We both can't get jack squat going, but then I get a Cleffa into play and Eek twice to get my board set up. He actually Foul Plays Eek two times, but after I KO Zoroark with Lost Burn all he does the rest of the game is Powder Snow with Cubchoo. Suffice it to say that doesn't win you the game.
3-2
Round 6 - Jacqueline with Mew/Magnezone/Eelektrik
I liked this deck. I mulligan like 2-3 times and then get a hand with Thundurus but no Energy, so I have to N going second and still get no Energy. I do get some sort of a board set up, but only after Thundurus was killed by Mew's Lost Burn. She gets a bunch of Eels in play and Catchers one of mine, but I get two Magnezones out in one turn and sort of mount a recovery. At one point she sends up Rotom and kinda feeds me a Zekrom prize, prolly because of a temporary Energy drought. I go for the Mews, and near the end it's 2-1 on my turn. She has a Zekrom active vs my full health Magnezone, and a Mew, Cleffa, + 3 Eels on the bench. I Catcher and KO her only Mew, figuring if she has a Catcher I lose, but if I KO the Zekrom she can just throw 3 Energy on the Mew and win anyway. She does not have anything and Eeks, and I have the Catcher + Lightning in hand to take out anything I need for my last prize.
4-2
End up missing Top Cut, but Tommy Roberts got in 8th with ZPST...and then lost to Chandelure. I didn't really know anyone else in Top Cut so no reason to stay.
Props: nice people
Slops: declumping
Game design explanation
The idea of this game was to make a very simple 2v1with little complexity, but high level players. The power level of roles was toned down a lot, which would make it easier for the Mafia to claim to the village without being found out with just a few simple checks. I’ve always found the enormous amount of pressure on the Mafia in non-anonymous games very annoying. There is often very little they can do other than get lucky and hope they kill the right Villagers. That isn’t to say that the Village usually wins - the Mafia are often masters of the lategame simply because they are less prone to having all their power roles taken out, and because they can always collaborate.
So the key points to this game:
- Give the village a few power roles, including a vigilante, and then make a lot of other weak and even counterproductive villagers that make it easier for the mafia to hide among them.
- Give the mafia fairly standard role outfits, including some form of crossfire protection.
- Include a few items, and some item-related roles on every faction. I wanted a Triforce mechanic in there.
- No wolf. Wolves are fun to design, but their kill is just another chance every Night for an important villager to die, or another unlucky mafia crossfire, or if the Wolf is taken into account for the game design, he could die early and screw up the whole balance. Also, less kingmaker factor.
Roles
Gonna be lazy and copypaste all the role PMs from my other document. Comments in bold.
C++
Dear users,
You are C++.
What started as an innocent group of hobbyist programmers became a warped sect of nerds, believing C++ to be the only language allowed, even though it isn’t really very useful when talking about daily things such as groceries and mafia.
Your group consists of:
Agape, the Curious Man
imperfectluck the Careful Man
Nachos, the Creative Man
Altair, Cooldown Man
As a mafia group, you are allowed to send in your Night PMs as a group, under the conditions that you talk your actions over when possible. You are also permitted to converse with dead members of C++, as long as “dead” knowledge does not transfer from a dead player to a living player.
Through the efforts of Curious Man, you have deduced that the Merry Men have quite a few weak members at their disposal, meaning you won’t need a full blown Night role to look like one of them. You also know they lack any kind of Rogue or (very limited) Question Asker.
To throw their investigations, you are allowed to set out a “false trail” every Night. One member may send in a PM entitled “Night X - Set trail to [user]” This action will not actually do anything, other than make it look like you were targeting your target.
I wish you good luck.
You win if all factions other than C++ are eliminated.
---
I thought this was a pretty funny combination of players. Agape, Altair, and ipl are all known as somewhat reckless players, and then Nachos is one of the most conservative Pokemon players I know...of course, I had to make ipl the Careful man.
The fake claims were rather rashly made up, but honestly I don’t think it’s too difficult to make up an extremely weak role for yourself. Look at the terrible village roles I included: that’s the level of roles you should keep in mind for your fake claims.
The fake trail was a last-minute addition that I didn’t expect to be of much use, but it would allow one of them to claim a really weak targeting role without being completely afraid of Watchers, even though there was none, and the Tracker would find them guilty anyway since the fake trail didn’t erase their real ones. They (Agape or Altair, forgot which) actually found a real clever use for this, using it to strengthen Agape’s deadtalker claim.
Dear Agape,
You are the Curious Man. You are aligned with C++.
A man whose craving to know what is behind that door or in that closet knows no bounds. You will make sure to check behind every curtain and beneath every bed to keep your surroundings clear.
At Night, you may send in a PM entitled “Night X - Peek through [user]’s keyhole” You will find out your target’s Role PM.
You are holding a Very Convincing Argument. It reads: 1 ,,i like your cow brother, but is to expensive’’. You don’t know how to best bring this fact to everybody’s attention though. This Very Convincing Argument is an Item, and can be stolen, given away or lost through other means.
One member of C++ may send in a PM entitled “Night X - Eliminating [user]” The target will be eliminated by the end of the Night. If multiple members of C++ send in this PM, one of them will be decided at random.
You win if all factions other than C++ are eliminated.
-------
I generally see mafia teams as one big role with multiple users behind it, rather than individuals with different roles. So a little bit of an overview: both mafia teams had a full inspector, some kind of bodyguard, some kind of hooker, and a thief. Full inspector is good for them cause they are supposed to be informed and all that jazz, plus it allows them to make weak role claims easily (role name checker, question asker, syllable counter, whatever).
Agape played very rashly, with a few clever moves mixed in with a lot of overly risky and silly ones. Nothing new under the sun there. He claimed death talker and used the fake trail to target dead people, which I thought was genius. zorbees and/or Paperblade actually trusted him quite a bit if I recall correctly. At some point everything came crashing down though. I believe it went something like: Paperblade was a little sceptical but hesitant to act, since zorbees told him not to and he didn’t want to make a game ruining mistake, but he did try to verify Agape’s claim by having him talk to Blue_Tornado when he was dead. Agape just tried to shrug it off by ignoring Paperblade’s messages, but ended up cracking under pressure (thinking he was (close to) found out anyway) and went with the usual “I’m wolf” claim, which pretty much made him a lock for the village hook that night. One less kill made the decision to lynch him very easy.
Dear imperfectluck,
You are the Careful Man. You are aligned with C++.
You reconsider every step before you take it, even if to anyone else it might look like there is no danger ahead of you. With you in charge, there will be no surprises around the corner.
At Night, you may send in a PM entitled “Night X - Protect [user1] and [user2] from [®/Merry Men]” Your targets must be members of your own team, and you cannot cover your own tracks. Your targets will be protected from Night kills executed by whichever team you choose.
You are holding the Club. While holding the Club, nobody dares to question who you you use your actions on. If anyone tries to redirect your action elsewhere, your Club will show them otherwise. The Club is an Item, and can be stolen, given away, or lost through other means.
The Club is one of the three caveman-related Items in the game. Obtaining the other two may be in your best interest.
One member of C++ may send in a PM entitled “Night X - Eliminating [user]” The target will be eliminated by the end of the Night. If multiple members of C++ send in this PM, one of them will be decided at random.
You win if all factions other than C++ are eliminated.
-------
I really wanted to give at least one team a good anti Crossfire measure, and I came up with this trade-off. It protects one more person than a regular bodyguard, but it can only stop either the vigilante or the other mafia. The Club didn’t do a single thing all game long, not even when it was merged with the Dinosaur, though I’m sure that in both of these stages it provided some added security to whoever was holding it.
Sadly, imperfectluck got tracked by Paperblade night 1. He was protecting Nachos and Altair, and for some reason also using the trail on himself . I think that had something to do with the role he claimed, and he thought the fake trail actually covered his other roles (kind of an understandable assumption but they really should’ve asked me if that was the case - the other mafia asked it like n1!). If he’d used the trail on someone not on his team, that would’ve at least kind of framed that person, but then again this is mostly in hindsight. Paperblade didn’t immediately use this information but it just so happens that zorbees inspected him n2 and Paperblade tracked him again, so that was that, ¾ of C++ was compromised quickly. I have no regrets about this role though, the tracker was intended to be strong.
Dear Nachos,
You are the Creative Man. You are aligned with C++.
When no one else sees a way out, you devise a cunning masterplan to get out of trouble. The plans generally involve the nearly impossible, but that is perfectly fine - it allows you to do what you do best.
At Night, you may send in a PM entitled “Night X - Execute a masterplan to get into [user]’s home” You will break in your target’s house and steal all their items.
One member of C++ may send in a PM entitled “Night X - Eliminating [user]” The target will be eliminated by the end of the Night. If multiple members of C++ send in this PM, one of them will be decided at random.
You win if all factions other than C++ are eliminated.
-------
It’s a thief. Thieves steal items. This game’s items were rather weak overall, other than the Caveman Skin which was basically a Triforce kind of thing, but with 6 of them in the game I felt a thief was a decent enough role to have. Together with the kill this made item hunting an acceptable strategy.
I don’t remember Nachos doing much, from what I know the C++ planning was mostly done by the other three but I didn’t exactly hang out in either mafia channel much so I could be wrong here.
Dear Altair,
You are Cooldown, Man. You are aligned with C++.
Your name is Cooldown, because man, you always tell people to cool down.
At Day, you may send in a PM entitled “Day X - Cool down, [user]” Your target will be unable to do anything during the upcoming Night.
One member of C++ may send in a PM entitled “Night X - Eliminating [user]” The target will be eliminated by the end of the Night. If multiple members of C++ send in this PM, one of them will be decided at random.
You win if all factions other than C++ are eliminated.
------
In retrospect, I would have delayed this hooker even further: send the PM in on Night 1, and the target is hooked on Night 2. I did not want to give either mafia a straight up hooker: that’s just too powerful in almost any stage of the game, both vs the other mafia and the village. This gives other teams a chance to plan around it. Of course, since the day is generally so uneventful this was pretty close to being a full-on hook, but C++ always planned this hook a night in advance anyway.
Altair did quite a few things I think, even beyond death? I love Altair he’s cute. He did most of the communication with Rydelrydelrydel (the anonymous alt of jumpluff) through his own anonymous thingy, and hilariously enough both mafias independently guessed the other’s real identity. It didn’t end up mattering a whole lot.
I have to say I didn’t like most of C++’s plays overall. They were a huge source of irritation towards ®, who were looking to collaborate (even if it had to be anonymous). They constantly failed or refused to get into contact, randkilled Wildeep instead of having a pretty surefire kill on shade when ® had already told them they were killing Flounder. This wasn’t as big as it seemed since either of them dying stopped them from killing, but they didn’t know that, and if they had the higher kill priority then that would also have stopped the bullet that was going for Nachos. I actually used Viva-style priorities here, where all kills go through regardless of who kills who, but still, why take that chance on WildEep when you are even told in your role PM that the village has a lot of weak roles?
Even after that, they made some very questionable targets. Agape’s very late inspect on Lightwolf was a waste, they were actually going to kill jumpluff at one point but switched, and they actually aimed for Crux (who was thankfully protecting himself). They also inspected zorbees and Paperblade very early (n4 and n2 respectively), but were not nearly as assertive about getting them killed as they should’ve been. They told ® to off Paperblade without any justification and went for strange other randtargets. Curious what was going on there.
It didn’t matter much in the end since the track and lynch on imperfectluck gave away ¾ of their team, but just because they got exactly what they paid for doesn’t mean they could not have played better.
®
Dear users,
You are ®.
A split-off group from the “BREIN” Foundation (but now apparently based in both Germany and Oceania) you believe in your right to sue anyone who does anything that you already put a trademark stamp on. Since you have put a trademark stamp on everything you could possibly think of, including living in Duesseldorf, that means you got your work cut out for you here.
Your group consists of:
Veedrock, the Researching Man
Crux, the Resilient Man
Blue Kirby, the Reaching Man
jumpluff, the Retaliation Man
As a mafia group, you are allowed to send in your Night PMs as a group, under the conditions that you talk your actions over when possible. You are also permitted to converse with dead members of ® as long as “dead” knowledge does not transfer from a dead player to a living player.
Through the efforts of the Researching Man, you have deduced that the Merry Men have quite a few weak members at their disposal, meaning you won’t need a full blown Night role to look like one of them. You also know they lack any kind of Safeguard or Bullet Proof Vest.
To throw their investigations, you are allowed to set out a “false trail” every Night. One member may send in a PM entitled “Night X - Set trail to [user]” This action will not actually do anything, other than make it look like you were targeting your target.
You win if all factions other than ® are eliminated.
----
Team Oceania plus Veedrock, I thought their timezones would match up very well because I overlooked how erratic jumpluff’s sleep schedule was. I really wanted Blue Kirby to play this game without tapering off so I put him in a team with people he’s familiar with, I think it kinda worked,,,there’s not going to be much to say about this team’s roles since they’re very similar to C++, but the players are more interesting cause, well, they won without Corleoning!
Dear Veedrock,
You are the Researching Man. You are aligned with ®.
Before taking action, you always insist on Googling first. Nothing should be done without knowing exactly what you are up against, and what way to know your enemy than by looking them up on Wikipedia?
At Night, you may send a PM entitled “Night X - Research [user]” You will obtain your target’s role PM.
You are (carefully) holding a Dinosaur that you were researching. If you target anyone while holding the Dinosaur, the Dinosaur will scour their place for useful Items. If it finds any at all, you will know (but not which or how many Items). The Dinosaur is an Item, and can be stolen, given away, or lost through other means.
One member of ® may send in a PM entitled “Night X - Suing [user]” The target will be convicted for copyright infringement and be put in jail for the rest of their lives, effectively killing them. If multiple members of ® send in this PM, one of them will be decided at random.
You win if all factions other than ® are eliminated.
------
They cleverly used the Dinosaur with the false trail to try and find items, but got no luck with it, mostly because the items just kept carrying over with lynches and kills. Veedrock carried out like 58209 actions every Night (since he was also doing the kill), but was also the first to get lynched. He did his thing pretty well, got some crucial randtargets (like both vigilantes in the first two nights), but that’s really not something I give individuals credit for unless they’re through educated guesses, and even then they are usually mulled over by the whole team.
Dear Crux,
You are the Resilient Man. You are aligned with ®.
You are the robust core of ®, always ready to take one for the team. No one can best you in hand to hand combat. Because you’re very strong. And powerful and such things.
At Night, you may send a PM entitled “Night X - Strongth [user]” Your target will be immune to kills during the Night.
------
Crux the Clutch. He ended up getting both the Dinosaur and the Club on him, the result of which is that the two items merge, their individual properties getting lost, and instead they become the Caveman Skin (no Dinosaurs were harmed in this process). The Caveman Skin provides either a BPV or a LPV, and this choice has to be made the moment you get it. Crux of course chose LPV, and while it didn’t come into play directly it definitely affected how their endgame plan played out.
It came down to the fact that zorbees and Paperblade trused Crux. I forgot the exact reasoning, but before you put the village loss on their shoulders, you need to take into account that zorbees seemed to be on fire when it came to cleaning people intuitively (see: Blue_Tornado), that zorbees had very little other options to leave the village sheet on (he inspected a mafia almost every night), and that Crux had been accused by Agape and imperfectluck, both of which had turned out to be mafia.
So Crux got the sheet endgame, found that the only other person on that sheet was Yeti who was also pretty much the only power role left (hooker), and with the Caveman Skin on him he could just lynch jumpluff (who had been inspected and sheet’d anyway) then cause two mislynches or a mislynch and a no lynch to win the game pretty much guaranteed. Very solid play overall.
Dear Blue Kirby,
You are the Reaching Man. You are aligned with ®.
You have arms longer than a gorilla and your body is more stretchable than rubber. Because of this, you are very apt at reaching.
At Night, you may send a PM entitled “Night X - Reach inside [user]’s bag” You will obtain all of your target’s items.
------
Blue Kirby often missed his team meetings (or so it seemed), so at least twice his team had him do stuff without talking to him (changing his target, moving items he stole, etc). This couldn’t really be helped and no drama took place...I just had to note it because it stuck out. Blue Kirby provided item control to ® since the other teams lost their thieves really quickly, and he also stole a couple of Very Convincing Arguments that did absolutely nothing since the only people who could use them (AG and DLE) died early. They didn’t know that and I hadn’t told them...I guess if I had, they had the option to give them away to a random villager so that an itemfinder wouldn’t be able to find them hoarding an item they told nobody about.
Blue Kirby never claimed to the village whichI didn’t like. I think jumpluff even made fakes for him (the whole team, even). He did call for contact with C++ once more when he was lynched, but to no avail. Still, having a relatively active Blue Kirby in my mafia game made me happy. Dodge this!!!11
Dear jumpluff,
You are the Retaliation Man. You are aligned with ®.
No one gets away with messing with you or your friends. You are the person with the eternal grudge against anyone who has ever done you wrong, intentionally or not.
At Night, you may send a PM entitled “Night X - Getting back at [user]” Your target will have you to answer to, and all actions they were taking that Night will be directed at you instead of their original target (except giving Items).
If ® has less members alive than C++ when the Night starts, your vengeful personality will make your ability stronger. Your target will be unable to do anything at all.
------
I like this come from behind mechanic, I plan to use it more often. In fact, I should really have put one of these on the other mafia too, especially considering how the game went...C++ lost three people before ® even lost two. I gave this to jumpluff cause I was sure she would catch the TCG reference (N, Twins, etc, for you other nerds out there).
jumpluff is probably a shoe-in for MVP, at least when it comes to evil people. She planned out pretty much everything, as far ahead as possible, made fakes, and faced death with a surprising amount of courage just to keep Crux believable. She was incredibly paranoid of RBG’s role though...or paranoid of a lot of things, really.
jumpluff was also very helpful providing her and her team’s thoughts for the sake of postgame. It’s too bad I don’t really want to go through all my logs and I’m pretty sure I got most of the essentials here!
Merry Men
Dear zorbees,
You are the Investigative Man. You are aligned with the Merry Men.
As an ex-leader of the local police force, you feel it is your job to help the Merry Men to track down all the suspicious individuals. You were always there to lead and motivate a team of policemen to find the culprit they were looking for, with all the evidence they needed.
At Night, you may send a PM entitled “Night X - Investigating [user]” You will receive the target’s role PM.
You win if all factions other than the Merry Men are eliminated.
---
zorbees saw his own PM reflected to him by Lightwolf by his n1 inspect, and as a result d1 was full of complications. He made a very weird and questionable move by talking to Blue_Tornado, who was offering himself up as a mouth piece in the thread simply because he was bored. It definitely paid off in hindsight - Blue_Tornado provided a lot of distraction and this allowed zorbees to start a streak of mafia inspections.
n2 he got imperfectluck, which was kind of overkill (Paperblade was already suspicious of ipl, and he was tracking him for the 2nd time in a row), then he found out Veedrock, Blue Kirby, jumpluff, and was about to clean RBG when he died.
Dear Wild Eep,
You are the Protective Man. You are aligned with the Merry Men.
Normally a bouncer at the local club, you have found a way to put your bulk to good use for the Merry Men. No suspicious individuals will be entering the club you will be guarding.
At Night, you may send a PM entitled “Night X - Bouncing people out of [user]’s club” Your target will be immune to kills during the Night.
You win if all factions other than the Merry Men are eliminated.
---
Poor Wild Eep, he never got to block a kill and got randkilled by the mafia when they had a better target. There really isn’t much to say here. He protected Blue_Tornado while alive most of the time, other than his randprotect on DLE n1, and he had claimed if I recall correctly. Could’ve saved the village quite a headache.
Dear Yeti,
You are the Womanly Man. You are aligned with the Merry Men.
The most feminine of the bunch, you sometimes wish you were born with a different chest and hip build. But since you happen to have these attractive traits anyway, you might as well make use of them for the good of the Merry Men!
At Night, you may send a PM entitled “Night X - Doing the horizontal tango with [user]” Your target will not be able to do anything at Night, other than giving and receiving Items.
You win if all factions other than the Merry Men are eliminated.
---
Probably my favourite role PM. It was totally decided by random.org, I couldn’t help leaving it this way. No limits for this hooker simply because the aim of this game was to make the roles as generic as possible, and I didn’t think village needed any kind of nerf in this regard.
Yeti was a little inactive earlygame, I had to bother her twice to send in her PM which caused some delays and I even wanted to sub her out since she said she was busy with school, but I was also afraid this would give away she was important. She ended up getting her act together though, preventing a kill by Agape. She inherited the spreadsheet but unfortunately she ended up alone with Crux on there...might have been better in hindsight to add someone else, but I would’ve been reluctant to increase the chance of the mafia getting on the sheet, and might have chosen to trust zorbees’s judgment here that Crux is clean.
Dear Flounder,
You are the Aiming Man. You are aligned with the Merry Men.
You and your older brother are the best shootists out of all the Merry Men. It is unclear which of you has a better shot, but you are a large step above everybody else. Getting rid of the evil scum should be a piece of cake for you two. Unfortunately, you only have one gun between the two of you, so you have divided the task accordingly...
At Night, you may send a PM entitled “Night X - Aiming for [user]” If both you and your brother target the same person, they will die. If either of you is disrupted, however, you will fail to shoot that Night.
You win if all factions other than the Merry Men are eliminated.
---
Pretty weak vigilante duo, about as frail as a porcelain vase. Though keep in mind the Backup Man could have substituted himself in as one of the brothers to keep the shooting going. Alas, they were inspected a total of three times by the two mafia in the first two Nights. I’m surprised they got the shooting on Nachos done as it is. Flounder was late sending in his PM :@
Dear shade,
You are the Firing Man. You are aligned with the Merry Men.
You and your younger brother are the best shootists among the Merry Men. It is unclear which of you has a better shot (you are fairly sure it’s you), but both of you are a large step above everybody else. Getting rid of the evil scum should be no problem. Unfortunately, you only have one gun between the two of you, so you have divided the task as following...
At Night, you may send a PM entitled “Night X - Firing at [user]” If both you and your brother target the same person, they will die. If either of you is disrupted, however, you will fail to shoot that Night.
You win if all factions other than the Merry Men are eliminated.
---
shade actually got in on the village sheet for all of one night or so before he got offed, planning to hijack the game from Blue_Tornado. He actually attempted to fire at Yeti during Night 1, hoping his brother would be of the same mind...I’m glad that didn’t end up happening.
Dear billymills,
You are the Greedy Man. You are aligned with the Merry Men.
If you had your way, you would have all the money and other valuables in the world. Nobody else is allowed to have anything. You have become very apt at the art of borrowing things from people and not bringing them back in order to accomplish this goal in life. And for the Merry Men, of course.
At Night, you may send a PM entitled “Night X - Borrowing [user]’s stuff” You will gain posession of all of their Items.
You win if all factions other than the Merry Men are eliminated.
billymills died a little later than usual, n2 instead of d1. I have to apologize here, somehow I missed the fact that he stole imperfectluck’s Club during n1. I didn’t end up making a big deal out of it because it was ipl’s team that killed him, so unless he gave it away on d1 (back when nobody could really be trusted, it ended in no lynch), it didn’t change anything. Well, I guess they could have lynched ipl, that would have changed things. :/

Dear dak,
You are the Political Man. You are aligned with the Merry Men.
You are the most influential man around. If you believe something is not going right, you are able to congregate, manipulate, and in the end, change things to what you believe to be better, whether that’s for you or the Merry Men.
At Night, you may send a PM entitled “Night X - Congregate with [user1], [user2], [user3], etc” The next Day, the traditional lynch system will be exchanged for a Council vote (such as in dude). The Council will consist of users you target.
You may target as many users as you wish, and the first three living users listed will be part of the Council. You may put yourself in the Council, of course. You can only use this ability once in the game, and it cannot be stopped in any way, even if you are to perish.
The Council vote involves each person on the Council sending in their vote for a lynch target privately to the host. The person with the most votes against them is lynched.
You win if all factions other than the Merry Men are eliminated.
I liked this role. Not really because it was strong (it isn’t), just because it is kind of cool! dak disagreed with me (as always) and didn’t do anything with it. I don’t know if he even wanted to be involved...there was a huge lack of leadership and he had one of the most provable roles out there, so he could easily have used his role on n2 and started gathering claims. It was really just intended as either that, or a mid/lategame lynch clutch.
At one point, Wild Eep was dead and zorbees had inspected and cleaned dak. C++ knew of Paperblade and zorbees, so I was really afraid they would both die, leaving the burden of village leadership on dak. dak tends to talk about mafia stuff to people he likes, so I was kind of afraid he’d just give everything he knew to Lightwolf and jumpluff, but thankfully that didn’t happen. dak did lead the lynch on Altair so that better roles could stay hidden, and that also attracted a kill on him, so he did die a hero after all.

Dear Paperblade,
You are the Tracking Man. You are aligned with the Merry Men.
As a child, you were already finding and analyzing people’s footprints in the snow and earth. Since you did not lose your knack for this as you grew up, you are able to trace someone’s whereabouts at will. Unfortunately, you tend to get a bit carried away when following people around, even if it’s on a mission for the Merry Men.
At Night, you may send a PM entitled “Night X - Tracking [user]” You will know exactly who your target has visited during the Night.
However, once you have started trailing someone, you don’t know when to stop. If you get a u positive result, you will be forced to pursue the person your target visited the next Night. If they visit multiple people that Night, you can choose which of them you track the next Night. If you get a negative result, you are free to trail anyone you wish the next Night.
You win if all factions other than the Merry Men are eliminated.
Paperblade really didn’t want to be mafia...alright then! I included the limitation mostly for fun, but it didn’t really end up coming to play much because of the high amount of possibilities where he could just pick a new target.
Anyway, PB’s been namedropped all over the place because his role was just that important. I was kind of disappointed that he didn’t give his valuable tracking information to anyone during d1, but then again there were very few people he could’ve told safely. He was actually kept in touch with zorbees using a quicktopic set up by Blue_Tornado just to keep zorbees hidden.
From what I can tell PB had to deal with a lot of hesitation, impatience and holding back cause not everyone, including him, was sure if he really should be doing stuff. I forgot the details but generally he played a good game and carried his weight.

Dear Quagsires,
You are the eBaying Man. You are aligned with the Merry Men.
While everyone else is asleep, you are at your computer, ready to snipe with your bid to get that item at the price you wanted it. You know for a fact everyone is jealous of your collection of rarities, even if they don’t admit it.
At Night, you may send a PM entitled “Night X - Sniping [item]” If the item you name is in the game, you will gain possession of it. However, you only have enough money to make one successful bid, so once you have obtained an item you cannot use this ability again.
You win if all factions other than the Merry Men are eliminated.
---
Please don’t kill all the damn thieves n1 :@ Seriously, the village lost thief, superthief, backup guy, vigilantes and bodyguard all within the first three nights, so their item control was completely screwed. I actually felt sorry for Quags because I even asked him if he was idling when I knew he was going to die, but it was a necessary formality.
Dear Pidge,
You are the Explosive Man. You are aligned with the Merry Men.
Checking in at the local psychiatry hasn’t helped your temper problem. If you feel too constrained, agitated, irritated, or anything like it, there is no telling what will happen to you or perhaps a fellow Merry Man...
While posting in the thread, you must constantly appear to be angry with the current state of affairs. Not doing so could have gruesome results.
You win if all factions other than the Merry Men are eliminated.
---
Not sure if his bitching was merely a clever way to deal with his posting restriction or his real frustration, cause this role sure sucked! Sorry man, but in order for the mafia to be able to false claim I needed to put things like this in. This role didn’t even work...I wanted to put in a real Death Star at first but this isn’t really the kind of game where I want too many deaths at once, and I also didn’t want to deal with priority ties.
Dear GoldenKnight,
You are the Heated Man. You are aligned with the Merry Men.
You lost your home recently because you couldn’t pay the bills, but it’s okay, at least you will stay warm during the cold, cold nights. And maybe you can keep a few other Merry Men warm, too.
You are holding the Fire. While holding the Fire, you will notice anyone targeting you at Night. At the end of the Night, you will know exactly how many people targeted you.
The Fire is one of the three caveman-related Items in the game. Obtaining the other two may be in your best interest.
You win if all factions other than the Merry Men are eliminated.
---
Another terrible role, just designed to have that item, though at least it kind of has a role attached to it. He never told anyone he had this item, basically just pretended selfwatching was his role. I liked this move, it would’ve been bad if it stopped the village from getting a Caveman Skin but after the first few nights it was clear they were never gonna get that.
Dear Aura_Guardian,
You are the Convincing Man. You are aligned with the Merry Men.
You are the voice of reason among the cacophony that is the Merry Men congregation. When you speak, everybody is willing to listen to your input. Of course, a voice of reason is nothing without good arguments. Thankfully, you happen to carry one around!
You are holding a Very Convincing Argument. It reads: 2 ,,do you want me to repeat it?this is treath’’. This Very Convincing Argument is an Item, and can be stolen, given away or lost through other means.
There are other Very Convincing Arguments in the game. For every Convincing Argument you get your hands on, your vote is worth 1 more! This means that currently, your vote is worth 2.
You win if all factions other than the Merry Men are eliminated.
---
Potentially game breaking mayor that can have up to 4 votes. Without a mafia-aligned silencer or persuader, this is one of the village’s lategame outs. I guess that’s why it was randkilled n1...there were several points in the game where I was like “I should make the holder of the 3 arguments get just one extra vote or something.” But changing mechanics during the game is just gay and I managed to keep myself from doing it.
Dear Ditto,
You are the Hairy Man. You are aligned with the Merry Men.
On a trip to Canada one year, you found yourself being hunted by what most have called a myth, a werewolf. Unfortunately for you, you were bitten. Since then, you have been a bloodthirsty werewolf hellbent on nothing but eating / killing everything in your path. Thinking you were doomed to a cursed life forever, you hid yourself away in the country where you could fill your lust for killing by terrorizing the local wildlife. A little while ago though, you were listening to your radio and learned of a Pharmacist among the Merry Men that had been working on medicines involving Wolf's Bane. You contacted him anonymously and with the blood you sent him, he developed a inhibitor that prevents you from becoming the beast you fear so much, as long as you keep taking the serum. Unfortunately the serum is not exactly the most profitable for the Pharmacist, so he only makes enough for you. You don't dare think of what would happen to you if you stopped taking the serum. It's too scary to think of.
You win if all factions other than the Merry Men are eliminated.

A fairly obvious troll I suppose, he figured that out pretty much Night 1. I like the very occasional blatant copypasta of role PMs from other games, it throws people off. Thankfully Ditto said did not mind having a troll role, though he might’ve changed his mind about that when he got lynched by Crux...
Dear LightWolf,
You are the Mimicing Man. You are aligned with the Merry Men.
You are a traveling master imitator, being able to copy anyone who interacts with you. You get it down so perfectly that you are actually often mistaken for the people you are imitating, creating rather awkward moments. You stumbled upon a Merry Man in your travels, and upon imitating him, became one of them.
Whenever anyone targets you, the result of that action will have been as if they had targeted themselves. For example, if someone tries to inspect you, they will receive their own role PM. However, a kill aimed your way will still go through.
You win if all factions other than the Merry Men are eliminated.
Haha, I am really glad I included this one, it’s an idea I’ve had lying around for ages. It was actually going to be in FE Mafia 2 but it got changed around there. I love roles that cause a bit of confusion. I actually have a tab on my spreadsheet dedicated to detailing what happens to every individual role targeting this. I was really hoping someone would try to steal from him but the double inspect trigger was as good as I could ask for.
LightWolf almost got lynched day one because of that deflect on zorbees, but escaped. He was kind of held at a distance but I think most in-the-know villagers didn’t think he was mafia.
---
Dear Blue_Tornado,
You are the Arguing Man. You are aligned with the Merry Men.
Whenever anyone says anything you even remotely disagree with, you go all out to contradict them. You don’t even care about convincing them: the mere act of arguing against someone is what pleases you. If it weren’t for the fact that your Win Condition was already set, you would try to go against them, too.
In every post you make in the thread, you must quote another poster and disagree with them, adding reasoning to make it look like a proper argument.
You are holding a Very Convincing Argument. It reads: 3 ,,a man that goes for treasure, goes to help the poor people’’. You don’t know how to properly bring this argument to the table yet though, so you can’t use this right now. This Very Convincing Argument is an Item, and can be stolen, given away or lost through other means.
You win if all factions other than the Merry Men are eliminated.

Awful item holding role.
Heh, B_T, leader of experts. Somehow he gained zorbees’s trust, shielding him and Paperblade while still being able to use the results for the good of the village. There’s a lot to say about all the good he has done but most of it can be found in other entries. One thing I really liked about his play was that he managed to work his posting restriction into his posts to make it look natural. By the time he died, I already forgot that he had the posting restriction to begin with!
Very solid play overall, proof you don’t need a good role to be able to do stuff. You do need to get a bit lucky though.
Dear RBG,
You are the Forgetful Man. You are aligned with the Merry Men.
You’re not sure how you got here. You’ve never been sure of anything in your life. You seem to have no long term memory. You are just hoping you will at one point remember what you are here for and what you are here to do. Perhaps if you help the Merry Men come out on top here, some part of your memory will be restored.
At Night, you may send a PM entitled “Night X - Targeting [user1] and [user2]” You forgot what exactly this ability of yours does, but if you stay alive for long enough, you may remember...
You win if all factions other than the Merry Men are eliminated.
I was pretty doubtful about letting RBG in cause of his bad rate of activity, but it ended up working out...even though he delayed update several times. This role was meant to be an out for the village lategame. For the few of you who don’t know yet: for most of the game, the role does nothing at all except maybe confuse the hell out of the Tracker. The moment RBG is one of the last four villagers alive, his memory triggers and he gains the ability to double silence + hook, pretty much winning the lategame for the village right there if he’s left alone. Unfortunately, he was mislynched on purpose by Crux JUST before it would trigger.

Dear Da Letter El,
You are the Backup Man. You are aligned with the Merry Men.
You are here to get the backs of your fellow Merry Men. With your aid, no one is entering this conflict without extra rations, first aid kits, and kittens. All of these will be very necessary.
At Night OR Day, you may send a PM entitled “Night/Day X - Backing up [user]” Your target must be a dead member of the Merry Men. You will adopt their abilities, and will be able to make use of them the upcoming Night or Day.
You win if all factions other than the Merry Men are eliminated.
Last but not at least, a role that was originally not in the game that I added to make it 25 players. In hindsight, this worked out to balance the game better. I expected this one to replace a dead vigilante, or a randkilled inspector/bodyguard...but he was randkilled himself way before these other roles. Such a shame, DLE is a good player and the village could’ve used him and this role. It’s one time use only, by the way...I thought that’d be kinda clear but apparently not.
I won’t bother with a game flow overview since that can be deduced pretty easily from all the other info you have available, but if you have any questions please pester LonelyNess.
