PRESIDENT’S REPORT

The October tournaments will be played on Thursday the 4th  on Mesa Linda and Thursday the 18th on Los Lagos.   We will play the silver tees on Lagos.    Just to let you know,  greens maintenance is scheduled  for both courses on October 16th and 17th .    Our past experience is the putting greens are not that bad the day after being punched and sanded.  A week later is when it gets bumpy so come out and play we can still play a good round and have fun too.

We had a very nice turnout  (73) for the General Meeting and golf tournament on September 20th.   The Mexican buffet was a hit and once again the raffle was fun too.   We gave out $1200 in merchandise and $400 in cash.  Congratulations to the winners:

The Club Champions were announced.  Tom Anderson won his third consecutive Club Championship.  Gerry Schomberg won Flight A, Don Farmen won Flight B, and Pete Mullally won Flight C.  They will receive engraved trophies.  Don Farmen was also the Low Net Club Champion.  Tom Anderson and Don Farmen will receive paid entries to the SCGA Tournaments of Club Champions, plus gas expenses.

The cash raffle was held, with $50 each given to Rich Clause, Tom Elliott, Rick Miller, Gary Shippy, Leon Dodge, Gerry Schomberg, Joe Mohney and Bill Price.  Forty raffle items were awarded, with Wally McGowen winning the Titlelist golf bag.

The 2011 Board of Directors was re-elected to serve again in 2012 at our General Meeting in September.

Returning is John Smith, President; Bill Cloud, Vice President; Skee Gutmacker, Treasure, Dave Hauske, Newsletter/Communications; Mike Supple, Handicaps; Rich Clause, Membership; Jim Thornton, Tournaments; Jack Price, 1st Thursday Tournament;  Ron  Plummer Assistant Tournament Director.

Fall is officially here even though we still are getting warm and humid days.   Fall reminds us all that it’s time to renew membership with CMSGA.   See Rich Clause’s message in this newsletter for details.

John Smith, President

HANDICAP REPORT

If the wind causes your ball to move on the green after you have taken your address position, is it a penalty?

The answer in 2011 was YES.  The answer in 2012 is NO!

A new exception to rule 18-2b (ball moving after address) was added in the 2012 rules to state that the player will not be penalized if the ball moves after it has been addressed when it is known or virtually certain that they (the player) did not cause the ball to move.

For example, if it is a gust of wind that moves the ball after it has been addressed, there is no penalty and THE BALL IS PLAYED FROM ITS NEW POSITION.

Handicap Chairman
