Menkes, Suzy. The New York Times, 2 Jan. 2000. Web. <http://www.nytimes.com/2000/01/04/style/04iht-fash.t.html>.

-body art is part of almost every culture

-some very “out there” styles of body art like re-shaping infant heads in chinese cultures (or women’s feet)

-we did cruel things to (corsets)

-if make up is included, Egypt as early as 3500 BC had little make up palettes

Catarra, Matt J. N.p., n.d. Web. <http://ezinearticles.com/?Tattoo---The-Beginning-of-the-Body-Art&id=2574797>.

-obvious in almost all cultures but some were VERY basic (rubbing ashes in an open cut or hand pricking skin and filling it with dye)

-word tattoo comes from Tahitian word Tatau meaning to mark something and then directly converted to English

-found 5,000bc on Otzi the iceman (man found in the ice dating back to 5000 bc and presevered very well in the ice)- more than 7 carbon tattoos on his lower back, ankels, and behind his left knee

"SOUTH TYROL MUSEUM OF ARCHAEOLOGY." Ötzi – the Iceman. National Georaphic, n.d. Web. 15 Jan. 2013. <http://www.iceman.it/en/oetzi-the-iceman>.

-about Otzi the iceman to confirm his tattoos and the time of period he lived

-confirmed all three tattoos and the possibility that they were linked to pain relief treatments because he suffered from pain or bone damage in all three regions

Lakey, Lisa. "ELibrary: Login." ELibrary: Login. N.p., n.d. Web. 06 Mar. 2013.

-age 35 to 40 are most commonly in tattoo removal process

-takes  to 10 appointments that each last a few minutes

-most common reason: got the tattoo when they were young and now their job says they can’t have it

"ELibrary: Login." ELibrary: Login. American Academy of Dermatology, n.d. Web. 07 Mar. 2013.

-henna is not as safe as many people think

-kids as young as 4 get them

-dangerous because of a dye that can cause a reaction

-veggie henna is alright and safe but will not last as long

"ELibrary: Login." ELibrary: Login. Pulse, 02 Feb. 2004. Web. 07 Mar. 2013.

-henna can cause a reaction and eventually scarring

-can leave a permanent mark when it was applied

-can’t take it off after it has been applied- have to wait for it to fade
