Dread Scott vs. Sandford

"Dread Scott v. Sandford." Landmark Cases of the Supreme Court. Street Lawn Inc. and The Supreme Court Historical Society, 2010. Web. 20 Jan 2011. <http://www.streetlaw.org/en/Case.17.aspx?CaseTabStrip=1>.

This case was between a slave fighting for his freedom and his master. This was a very moving and popular case because of the fact that it was what helped the movement of slavery being outlawed and proof that discrimination was on its way to being empowered. This case affects the way I live everyday because of the fact that I am a minority and without cases like this and an understanding that African American opinion can hold up in court, my life would be quite difficult.

Tinker vs. Des Moines

"Tinker v. Des Moine." Landmark Cases of the Supreme Court. Street Lawn Inc. and The Supreme Court Historical Society, 2010. Web. 20 Jan 2011. <http://www.streetlaw.org/en/Case.10.aspx?CaseTabStrip=1>.

This case is sentimental to me because of the fact that I am constantly apart of small movements for certain causes especially gay rights. The fact that my school’s dress code is a lab coat with almost whatever clothing we want being worn under it, there is much room for personal expression. The fact that this case is a stepping stone to securing the rights of students to calmly stand for their opinion and spread their passion to others for their support is an important fact for even just a passionate person.

Pennsylvania Tattoo Law 4729

T.A.G. Administrator, and Clinton Stevenson. "Pennsylvania State Tattooing Regulations and Licensing." Tattoo Artists’ Guild. Tattoo Artists' Guild, 26 Sep 2010. Web. 20 Jan 2011. <http://www.tattooartistsguild.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=66:pennsylvania-state-tattooing-regulations&catid=40:tattoo-licensing&Itemid=60>.

In Pennsylvania, it is illegal to apply “permanent makeup” on a minor without the consent of a parent or legal guardian of the person. Tattooing has become an even more popular form of self-expression and because of this law is limited. It’s most likely limited because of the fact that tattooist especially believe that people should wait and think their tattoos out instead of rushing into getting them like many youth do. Unfortunately, laws apply to even those who do think their actions through and don’t just act on them because of peer pressure or social appearance. This law has completely slowed down my process for being tattooed and also forces me to find places that don’t necessarily follow this law.

Insurance Requirements

"Auto Insurance Requirements for Pennsylvania Car Drivers." Instant Car Insurance. Ensurance.com, 2011. Web. 20 Jan 2011. <http://www.instantcarinsurance.com/pennsylvania-car-insurance.asp>.

"Pennsylvania Auto Insurance Quotes."CarInsurance.com. CarInsurance.com, Inc., 2011. Web. 20 Jan 2011. <http://www.carinsurance.com/state/Pennsylvania-car-insurance.aspx>.

In Pennsylvania, there is a regulation on the amount needed in car insurance liability. These minimum limits usually cause a person to pay at least $1500 yearly. The law says that the minimum amounts are per person therefore, for each person in the household, the yearly amount paid is $1500 per person also. This is affecting my life because since I have to worry about a raise in my mother’s insurance, I’ve had to put a hold on actually getting my license. This is negative for my lifestyle because there is no way around this besides committing fraud and possibly risking our insurance to be null in void.

Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)

United States. Fact Sheet #43: Youth Employment Provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act for Nonagricultural Occupations. , 2010. Web. 20 Jan 2011. <https://docs.google.com/viewer?url=http://www.dol.gov/whd/regs/compliance/whdfs43.pdf>.

The United States regulates the age of child labor in non-hazardous work be set to the age of 14 in agriculture while everywhere else is 16 years old. This is positive for me because of the way that my family is situated, I need to work. If the age were 18, my way of life would be more difficult and I wouldn’t have the job that I have now.

Driving Permit Qualification Age

Positive

"PennDOT Driver and Vehicle Services - Young Drivers." Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. PennDOT, n.d. Web. 20 Jan 2011. <http://www.dmv.state.pa.us/young_drivers/young_driver_faq.shtml#Q01>.

In Pennsylvania the age to receive a permit is 16 and because of this law I was able to receive my permit and also am eligible to receive my license. In some states the law is a person has to be 18 in order to get a license and in other states the minimum is actually younger than 16. Without this law, I may not have been able to receive my permit at the age that I did so this law is quite positive in my life.

The FCC (Federal Communications Commission)

"Broadcasting Law and Regulation." Radford University. Radford University, 2011. Web. 20 Jan 2011. <http://www.radford.edu/wkovarik/class/law/1.9broadcast.html>.

Due to complaints of the material being passed through the upcoming technically advanced generation, there were complaints about the regulation of it’s content. The FCC was brought on to enforce and make sure that all compliance was being followed. The FCC stands for the Federal Communications Commission and has been around since 1934 and continue to regulate what they believe is fair to this very day. The FCC’s rules and regulations affect me everyday when I listen to the radio and watch television. I can never hear the generic piece of material that an artist produces or see the whole story when the news broadcasts a breaking news report.

The CDC (Centers for Disease Control)

"Flu Information for Patients and Parents of Patients with Asthma." Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 29 Nov 2009. Web. 20 Jan 2011. <http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/asthma.htm>

The CDC urges those with asthma to get a flu shot yearly because of the fact that it can be contracted easily and therefore spread more by those who are susceptible to getting it. Since it is urged, hospitals will rarely refuse a person with asthma flu shot if there is a shortage. Recently, I was priority to receive a flu shot at my doctors office because of my asthma. They were receiving the vaccination in small amounts and may not have had enough for every single patient so they decided to follow the priority of those who would be more likely to catch the Flu.
