Highlander Needs a Director
Not too long ago we reported that Summit films was working to reboot the Highlander franchise and that they had hired Justin Lin, director of Fast Five, to direct the new film. They have a script written by Marcum and Holloway, the screenwriters for Iron Man. However, Justin Lin’s schedule wasn’t going to line up with the production schedule that Summit is demanding and he has had to step down from the project. Summit is now shopping around to find another director.

Avengers Details Beginning to Leak
Last week Casey and I had a little discussion about how all the details behind the filming of Batman: The Dark Knight Rises were beginning to spoil things for potential filmgoers. Part of that conversation had to do with their choice of filming locations and how I thought that The Avengers were making the same mistakes.
This week Avengers started filming in Cleveland, and like Dark Knight Rises, we’re starting to get pictures and video from the sets that are providing us with probably a little too much detail. Earlier this week they filmed a scene that showed Captain America fighting some big guys carrying alien looking weaponry. This is lending support to a rumor that Loki is going to set off a Skrull invasion in the film.
The filming of the new Superman movie is also in the US and will supposedly feature some action with a very young Superman. Not a whole lot to go on though.
While we’re talking Superman and Batman though they have a bunch of news this week.
The WB has been, very quietly, developing a Batman/Superman movie. The rumor is that, following the Superman Reboot and Dark Knight Rises, WB is looking to have some form of a movie where the two are together. There are, reportedly, two different sets of plans out there. One is to use the script written for Batman vs. Superman from a few years ago, the executives supposedly loved the story. Another one is to develop a story where an established Batman mentors a young Superman.
In either case they are hoping to get Christian Bale back, who wouldn’t have any contractual obligation to come back, but Henry Cavill would definitely be involved.
Also, on sale this week at your local comic book store, Superman/Batman #87. The mastermind behind all the trouble that Superman and Batman have been dealing with reveals himself to be the Joker. Clark Kent has to defend himself without revealing his secret identity.
Star Wars: Clone Wars Season 4
We have a premier date for Season 4. Friday, September 16th. A little less than a month away. There was a new trailer released this last week that you need to check out just to listen to a Clone Trooper tell C3P0, “suck it up shiny.”

Charisma Carpenter and James Marsters
Charisma Carpenter and James Marsters, Cordelia and Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, will be guest starring in an upcoming episode of Supernatural. The episode, “Shut Up, Dr. Phil,” will feature Marsters and Carpenter as a married couple. Charisma’s character is a witch who has been using her spells to make Marster’s character very successful for several years now. She gets angry, and now Marster’s and the whole town is being forced to suffer.
Runaways On Hold
Marvel’s adaptation of The Runaways for the big screen has been put on hold until after The Avengers. Screenwriter Drew Pearce revealed the details at a screenwriting panel last week:
“Basically, ‘The Avengers’ came along and everything else at Marvel got put on hold for a year. But the script is there, we’re good go,” Pearce said. “It’s kind of like [being] at the airport when you’re waiting for your slot to take off with Marvel, and we’re hoping we get a slot next year. Fingers crossed. They’re very happy with it, so hopefully it happens.”
Ridley Scott - Blade Runner Sequel

Ridley Scott has agreed to direct a sequel to Blade Runner after he’s done with the, sorta, Alien prequel Prometheus. The project will be made with the help of Alcon Entertainment and will be their biggest project since The Blind Side.
Email from Greg in Oregon
I just wanted to drop you a quick note about your August 14th show, yes we are all bummed about Eureka being cancelled, and yes the show is set in a fictional town in Oregon, but do you really have sacrifice the whole state of Oregon because of the short sightedness of the syfy channel?
Seriously though, in case any of my fellow Oregonians haven't already pointed it out already, there are a lot of really cool and geeky things going on in Oregon, and Vince's joking (hopefully) about sacrificing it to the syfy gods inspired me to put together a quick little geeks guide to Oregon on a new site I've been working on. So check it out and hopefully you will realize just what you'd be missing out on.
