Once again, RMTA was very well represented at state convention! We had 12 students advance to the state solo performance contest this year. Cherry Hanes' student, Sophia Banowsky, received an Honorable Mention in the 9/10 vocal division. Grace Long's student, Christina Yang, received an Honorable Mention in the 9/10 concerto division. Rozalie Levant's student, DeAnne Dato-on, received an honorable mention in the grade 12 division. Congratulations to all these students; competition is fierce at the state level!

Also representing us at state were several chamber music groups, both in the June Leondar Chamber Music Contest and the Chamber Music Clinic. Jason Huang and Boris Tsang, students of Julie Chung, won first place in 10/12 jazz ensemble. Ryan Chen and Joshua Lin, also students of Julie Chung, won first place in the grades 10-12 piano duets/duo division. Allen Long's student trio won second place in the 10-12 chamber ensemble, and Sallie Fletcher, Katie Cox, and Nicolas Lawrence, students of Teri Lawrence, won second place in the 7-9 chamber ensemble division. Thi Dang and Thu Dang, students of Margaret Mulvey-Claiborne, had a wonderful performance in the chamber music clinic.

Sallie Fletcher, student of Teri Lawrence, received second place in the Grade 5 solo division of the Original Composition, and performed on the recital at convention. We also had several students perform at the All-Star Festival, receiving gold medals.

RMTA sent four fine ensembles to the convention, and they all represented us very well. Thanks to their directors, Margaret Mulvey-Claiborne, Peggy Griffith, and Crystal Griffith for all their hard work! Pete Johnson, student of Crystal Griffith, received his 9-year ensemble award.

Quach, student of Cherry Potts, both received their Twelve Year Theory Medal awards, and Elizabeth Ho, student of Linda Shirley. received her Twelve Year Theory Cerficate. Amy Quach, student of Laura Seale, also received her Twelve Year World of Music certificate.

Elizabeth Ho, student of Linda Shirley, Amy Quach, student of Laura Seale, and Ashley Quach, student of Cherry Potts, all received their Student Affiliate State Participation awards.
