Clifford came to collect taxes, but there was no money and he said Grandpa didn’t pay taxes for 10 years.
Little Willy went to the bank to get a loan, to get money. Banker and everyone else told him to sell the farm.
He asked Grandpa and he didn’t answer.
He saw a poster that said that anyone who wins the dog sled race would win $500 (amount owed on taxes)
He entered the 10-mile race w/5 10-dollar gold pieces (college education money)
Willy meets Stone Fox
Race at 10--only nine participants because they felt Stone Fox would win
Willy went to get grandfather’s medicine in town at Lester’s store
Willy went inside a barn to see the samoyeds and Stone Fox. Stone Fox hits Little Willy. He has black eye, can’t sleep. Swollen shut
People are cheering Willy on at the starting line including Lester, Doc Smith.
Willy is surprised that the whole town is there to watch him race.
Chapter 8 ends when the race is about to start. People telling him to change his mind.
Little Willy winning at first, Stone Fox goes slow at first. Little Willy pulled ahead with each turn. He’s excited.
Little Willy takes a short cut across the lake. No one else attempts to cross lake
Crossing by Grandfather’s house. Searchlight goes faster. Grandfather looks out window.
Stone Fox goes ahead.
Searchlight dies. Stone Fox lets Little Willy win

Why is Clifford Snyder afraid of the dog (maybe because of the way the dog is acting --he’s a city slicker, might not be used to animals.

I think that the author in 8th chapter in Stone Fox is trying to get you riled up about the race. I wonder what will happen next?
