CHECKLIST
Basic criterion:
- Punctuation: Full stops
- Capitalization
- Tense of verbs
- Prepositions (Example: to, for, above)
- Paragraphing
- Legibility (Handwriting)
- Correct use of pronouns (Example: he, she, they, their)
- Maintain narrative voice (I went to the park. She (“I” should not change to ‘she’ or ‘he’ )enjoyed a lot there.
- Spelling
Intermediate criterion:
- Maintain the interest level of the reader
- Appropriateness to audience (Example: A letter to a friend must not sound like an essay)
- Punctuation: commas, Question mark
- Apostrophe (Example: Archana’s)
- Maintaining the tense throughout
- Use of new and interesting words (including adjectives and adverbs)
- Use of direct and indirect speech
- Use of voice (your own ideas, thoughts, opinions, etc.)
- Use of conjunctions in the right places
- Varying sentence structure
Advanced criterion:
- Punctuation brackets, Exclamatory mark, colon, semi colon and dashes
- Use of figures of speech (simile, metaphor, personification, alliteration)
- Use of direct and indirect speech (with the correct punctuation)
- Can use or attempt grammatically complex structures, (e.g. expansion before and after the noun – ‘The little, old man who lived on the hill…; subordinating clauses – ‘I felt better when..; ‘who taught me the guitar.’)
- Use of famous quotes
