10 Places--A Second Semester Technology & Writing Project

Objectives:

Overview:

Students will be create a wiki page that shows ten places in the world that they would like to visit. This page will contain one paragraph per place and each paragraph will be at least 10 sentences. The paragraphs will contain factual and descriptive information about each place along with complete explanations about why students would like to travel there.

Students will be given the opportunity to include digital images, video, and interactive maps in their wiki page. All sources of digital imagery and movies must be cited.

Timeline:

We will work on this at various points in Writing Workshops during the next 8 weeks. Students are permitted to work on it at home if they’d like.

Here are the steps that will be completed:

  1. Select places they want to visit. Places can be from anywhere in the world. They can be specific (example: Disneyland) or more broad (example: France).
  2. Conduct research about these places so they learn what’s there. This can include places to eat, museums, etc. Take notes as you go in your own words. Also copy the names of your resources (i.e. the sites/books you used for information).
  3. Write rough draft paragraphs for each place that combines the facts from your research with your detailed explanations about why you want to go there.
  4. Add images and videos with sources cited.
  5. Add an interactive map of either the entire trip or one for each place.
  6. Add table of contents and other features (podcast, video diary, etc.)
  7. Publish and share with the world.
