One World
One Humanity
One GOD
My Brother;
I am writing to you today regarding the United Nations and the sentiment expressed in the letterhead above. It is through the United Nations that we can all realize that we are One World and One Humanity, a reality that can elude us in the grind of daily living. That there is One God is a fact that is increasingly recognized by thinking people around the world and in this Oneness the hope and future of the United Nations may lie.
In today’s world of continuing distrust among nations and peoples, of worldwide terrorism, of extreme poverty contrasted against extreme riches, and where the threat of continued war creates a fear that can permeate our lives, the United Nations is humanity’s single best hope and its best weapon.
The Preamble to the United Nations Charter clearly dictates that it is an organization of countries that is assembled to foster the expression of Goodwill and Right Human Relations which are the outward manifestation of the Love and Light expressed by Christ over 2000 years ago. The high ideals of this Preamble and the Articles of the Charter can be seen as the current foundation for the Peace on Earth, Goodwill Toward Men which is ever the Christian message and a noble undertaking regardless of one’s religious affiliation.
With the above in mind, I humbly ask that you, in your position as a leader of a congregation, would create a time in your daily and weekly services to offer some mention of the United Nations and perhaps include the United Nations in your prayer offerings. In this way we can pray for strength and recognition for this World Body which is our best hope for World Peace. At the same time we can help to foster, in the minds of those in your congregation, the high ideals of the United Nations.
The United Nations, as an organization, is not perfect. It suffers from the same, sometimes selfish, attitudes as its member nations and receives much negative press regarding some of its dealings. This however does not detract from the fact that it is the only world body (currently 193 nations are members) that can discuss and mediate the ills of our world civilization from a truly global point of view and, for this purpose, it deserves our support and prayer.
Again, I ask that you make the time to help to bring the United Nations and its ideals to the forefront through your mention and prayer in the hope that this may help to create an atmosphere where the United Nations is talked about and promoted as our best hope for World Peace.
Thanking you in advance for you participation,
Your brother in pursuit of Goodwill and Right Human Relations,
R.A. Bartole
