Puppy Mills
Puppies from puppy mills are usually scared when arriving at a new home, thinking that the may get abuse again. People will usually never see the treatment the dogs receive such as mental and physical abuse. Some of the puppies never make it to the pet store. The mother dogs spend all of their time breeding without a brake to rest. Puppy mills abuse their dogs and ignore their health issues.
Parent dogs usually suffer from poor treatment including not having shelter, not getting enough food, and not receiving medical treatment. According to an articled tittled “Puppy Mills” in the L.A. Times once the parent dog cannot produce puppies anymore, the breeder takes them and kills them. According to PETA, the female dog is made to produce twice a year and then they are killed. Breeder dogs can spend their entire life outside or inside a cage in a filthy environment, never seeing the sun or breathing fresh air, the treatment of breeder dogs continues to be negative.
Being raised in a puppy mill negatively affects dogs. According to L.A. Times “Puppy Mills puppies usually have mental issues entering a caring home because they are used to getting abused. Puppies who where raised in such small cages have different behaviors than puppies who were raised in a loving home. Puppies barely have human interaction until they are sold. As a result these puppies can have excessive behaviors. Owners that adopt these puppies have to have extra patience because of the conditions they are in.
The puppies have such poor care that they reach the point of having health issues. Puppies that have survived the mills have had their teeth pulled out because of the lack of health care. Puppies coming out of the mills often have illnesses such as epilepsy, kidney, and heart diseases, and bone disorders. According to “Information On Puppy Mills” It says that puppy mill owners put the puppies in wire cages damaging their paws. The puppies usually get ear mites because of their dirty conditions. Their health is in such poor condition that they may suffer is the don’t get the care they need.
The treatment of the dogs is so neglectful that it causes them pain. The uncaring treatment of the parent dog is passed on to the physical and mental condition of their puppies. Puppy mills are horrible places for puppies to be in and every time someone buys a puppy fifty more are going to be produced.
