Community Focus Group - Notes

First of all thank you all for coming to the second community focus group. We will be answering all questions, instead of just focussing on the community.

Pre-Submitted questions.

          Anonymous asks: Can we please get an official back up TeamSpeak with a different host and/or location?

The amount of times the TeamSpeak is rendered unusable is http://www.literallyridiculous.com/

Staff answer: - We are finding ways to switch over our TeamSpeak to a new server. There is no fixed answer for this, but as a back-up TeamSpeak, the TE on is available for you to join (voice.teamelite.io). If you ever find that the MCGamer TeamSpeak is down and you need a staff member, feel free to join the IP above and poke a member with the ‘MCGamer’ rank as they are all members of staff on MCGamer.

        Aedrift asks: Will the friend rank or any other rank to give a retired staff member credit return? And if not, why?

Staff answer: -  So, as a decision from the whole of Sr staff, it was removed because of the drama that was caused and the decisions that came with it, for example giving ex staff the rank and whether or not people deserved it, therefore, Ex staff have received Platinum donor. The rank has been removed and will most likely never be coming back.

        Anon asks: The staff team constantly makes mistakes whilst doing their job. These mistake can often lead to repercussions not only to themselves and the community. People have been hurt by these mistakes but, it seems like most the staff try to hide their mistakes instead of apologizing. This can be really frustrating when they expect you to forgive them by stating thing like "we all make mistakes". I know that some mistakes can't be shared publicly to avoid drama but, the least you could do is message (or talk) to people privately and apologize.

Staff answer: - A lot of moderator or at least some who are in this meeting, we do go out of our way to apologise to people if we make mistakes. For example I’m pretty sure every mod has accidentally banned or kicked the wrong person, and a lot of us do actually try to follow the person to go and say sorry.

CaptainSwifft asks: If you do not allow block glitching,why don't you make it so that players are in Adventure mode when there playing SG?

Staff answer: -  There are blocks in SG that are meant to be broken. When you are in adventure mode, you can’t break any blocks. There are other things in SG that can’t be done/used if everyone is in adventure mode.

Unisus41 asks: Theres not enough moderators, theres only one in maybe 1/50 of my games, and theres still a ridiculous amount of hackers. When I seek out a mod for help on the server they all just ignore me and I understand that some of them may be away but it happens a majority of the time, which I don't think should be the case. Also over half the time I poke a mod on teamspeak for help I also get no response. In short, the mods suck.

Staff answer: - There is around 140 mods throughout 500 servers, which is pretty difficult. If a mod doesn’t reply on teamspeak, its either because they’re are idle and not at their computer. The best way to check this is to click their name with the middle mouse button, and if they’re idle time is 0 you can tell if they are afk, and you can then report that to sr staff if they are directly ignoring a poke about a hacker.

MysticHD_ asks: Can U Allow a 20 minute delay on a thread closing time, Sometimes I goof and mess up a report

Staff answer: - Recently in a Mod meeting, one of the admins decided to change the rules so that we no longer allow users to change or add evidence as it floods the report abuse section on our side. Instead, we ask that you repost the whole report abuse with the full screenshots/videos.

Brandon6895 asks: Targeting has been an issue. Whenever someone joins a game disguised it will show their actual name when they join, when will this be fixed? Also when will /stats tab or /whisper tab be fixed so it won't show the disguised players real names? Thanks.

Staff answer: The first one, you can actually do /d in hub and you will join as a disguised player.

FAMILYMONSTER asks: What are your feelings about a new co-owner? And who do you think it'd be?

Staff answer: It will only ever be Chad, but if there was going to be another owner, it would be Col.

trey452 asks: Moderators Overusing their powers. My friend was kicked by a mod (JeremyTyler) for killing him in a game. My friend was still alive and was kicked by the mod in the middle of the game.

staff answer: Basically ,if you feel that a mod is abusing their powers, hop onto the TeamSpeak and report it to a Sr Mod. An alternative to this would be messaging a member of Sr Staff on the forums. Remember to give a truthful reason because it is logged. Don’t report it to another mod as we have little power to deal with them (other than telling a Sr mod, so it’s faster if you go straight to them).

JacobDoesGames asks: What kind of questions do we ask again?

staff answer: Any questions you have relating to the community or anything at all, its an awareness kind of thing, you can submit ideas, questions and queries about this.

Veriz_M8 asks: Can you explain whats going on with mojang and the servers?

Staff answer: Its hard to tell, at the moment, I suggest looking into it via other media.

JacobDoesGames asks: What kind of SG Maps does MCSG look for, as in quality, build type, etc.?

Staff answer: We look for everything in maps, unless they are from competition winners. But we do look into

Duncanbh asks: If macros is against rules because users can abuse it, how can we abuse, because macros can help with F5 button on your mouse. I got banned for using macros for f5 on my mouse side buttons.

Staff answer: Macro’s give an unfair advantage to players who use macro’s against players who don’t.

FAMILYMONSTER asks: How do you guys pick the Sr.Mods from the Moderators?

Staff answers: First of all, right now we do standard nomination process, and see who we think is capable and qualified, and we come together as a whole and vote on it. They get dragged up and told the good news!

Anonymous: I think that mods first thought before applying is to get the perks, is this true?

Staff answer: Some people do apply just for the perks and if they get mod, they normally wash out pretty fast. The best mods tend to be the ones that don’t do it for themselves, the do their job for the community. Sure, being a mod has its perks, but it actually has its downsides - we have to come out of games to catch hackers, even if we’re going to win. We also spend less time playing and more time doing our jobs, and if we aren’t, the Sr staff see that and demote us.

AsianWiz: How come staff doesn't take more recommendation from the community?

Staff answer: Well, the staff, we do take recommendations from the community, this involves events, polls on the forums, etc. However some of the time, just because the community ask for it, it doesn’t mean that we can do it.

Anonymous: Is it true MCG is taking people and messing up their connection to the MCSG forums?

Staff answer:  Yes, to an extent. We add a discouraged to certain IP’s for people who we don’t really want on our forums, because you’re causing trouble etc. Only forums, not games.

FAMILYMONSTER: Do you plan to add any new MCG servers?

If so, what would they be?

Staff answer: In terms of MCG servers, no.

MysticHD: Does Stat Reset, resets points, time played etc

Staff answers: It resets everything other than your bounty.

Duncanbh: How do we get Age Exceptions for mod?

Staff answer: For us to know and you to find out.

Live Q and A

Question: Is there any way banned players can get mod?

Answer: If the ban was under one day or Pardoned.

Question: I’ve asked about age exception, and mods just say “you have to find it yourself” why do they do this?

Answer: That is exactly the point. It is there to test your initiative. We can’t give you any hints and if someone tells you the answer, they’re gonna have a bad time.

Question: Will you be releasing info on any more game types?

Answer: Whenever they are ready enough, we will give out information.

Question: With the new release of maps, there was a lot of controversy over maps that weren’t found over the forums.

Answer: There was a map Q&A earlier, and basically, the maps that aren’t on our forums are from sites like PMC.

Question: Will there ever be paid staff?  

Answer: No, If we make millions a month, then maybe. If you mean pay for staff, definitely not.

Question: There’s no way to get your ban off your record other than getting it pardoned?

Answer: Nope, you can’t buy yourself out of a ban.

Question: When I first joined the mcsg server I was a fan of a guy name lolitsalex and I had his skin, too I got banned for it  I think I got banned for 1 day and it was a year ago. And I forgot and also I’m in 8th grade and I’m 13 does it still affect me with my mod app?

Answer: All bans have an effect on your chance of becoming a moderator.
