The Highlight of My Life

It was a sunny day, the leaves were light brown and the wind was blowing softly in the middle of the day. I was in my soccer gear headed to my soccer game for the playoffs. The one thing on my mind was “ What am I going to do?” What if my team is disappointed in me for missing a shot, and what if I got injured and couldn't come back for the rest of the game? At first I realized that I wasn't good enough for the playoffs. But afterward I thought “My team needs me in this game, this is what I wanted the whole season”.  At that moment I realized that in order for my team to win this game I had to play my hardest for them. Also to prove to my coaches that we deserved to the playoffs. That we fought for it and we worked as a team to get this far and it was now our time to shine.

It was 12:45 there were forty-five minutes before our playoff game and the refs where talking to my coach. My coach called me over to talk to the two refs.  After I got done talking to the refs I gathered my whole team together and told them “This is going to be a hard game, they want this as much as we do, but we are going to play hard and fight for this game.” I felt like everyone understood me so we broke off and headed back to our warm ups. Although I encouraged them I could see the nervousness in all of my teammates eyes. When the refs called for captains, Edgard, Andrew, Chewy, Jose, Marcos, Jevante, and I went to go meet the other team captains and the refs. After listening to the refs we shook hands with our opponent’s captains from the other team then broke off.

The refs blew the whistle and said that it was time for the game to start. We all lined up in our positions and the ref asked the goalies if they were ready. He blew the whistle for the second time and the game began. My main objective was to get all of my teammates in the game but I realized that they kept on passing me the ball. The ref blew his whistle and said that it was halftime. We went to our coach and he was mad. He said that they kept passing me the ball too much. I was getting tired of my other teammates not doing their job. He also mentioned that there is no I in team because the score shouldn't be zero to zero. Then after about 15 minutes we went back to on the field and the same thing kept happening but we played hard that half but still didn't score any goals.

After the full time limit for the game we had to go into overtime with the score at zero to zero. By now everybody on my team was very tired, breathing hard and sweating like pigs, but I had this feeling if we couldn't' t win this game then we really didn't deserve to be here. So 1 asked the ref if we could have a timeout he said "you have two minutes," so I got my team together and told them don' t waist your energy wait for penalty kicks and that' s when everybody finally woke up because everybody wanted to end the game a lot sooner.

When overtime started we started passing the ball a lot more and it was like we like we were pros. The ref blew the whistle and pulled out a yellow card and I was forced to kick a penalty kick. I kicked the ball pretty hard at the goalie but before he blocked it hit him in the nose and I said to myself, “oh man,” I felt so bad for the guy and he started bleeding so I went over to see if he was okay. They cleaned his nose and then said after that we could continued the game, within ten minutes the ref blew his whistle and said it was time for penalty kicks.

This is the best highlight of my soccer years that I will always remember. When coach called Edgard, Andrew, Austin Jose, and I for the penalty kicks everybody was jumping up and down because I was last and they knew that I was clutch kicker. Austin took the first shot but missed it to the right, Edgard also missed, kicked it to the right, Andrew kicked it over the top post, and Jose kicked it to the right at the goalie but the goalie blocked his shot and it all came down to me. One single shot could win the game and so the ref said shoot at anytime you want I took a deep breath and I looked at my team they were praying and then finally I looked at my dad then locked my eyes on the goal this was my moment! Then I kicked it at the left post and it went in for the win Then my teammates and my coach did they dog piled on me then they lifted me above their heads and after they poured water on me I will always remember that day of my life.
