The SLP Apps List
This is a resource document intended to comprise a comprehensive list of mobile apps (iOS, iPod, iPad, Android, Blackberry) that can be useful to SLPs.
To begin, the list is divided into 3 categories: Lists and Resources, Pediatrics, Older Children/Adults.
Suggested format for listing apps-App Name with Link to iTunes or other site if possible (devices app runs on, developmental age range of appeal/application)- description of app, and clinical use- price
Please try to note if the app can be run offline, or if it requires 3G/4G or wi-fi to function.
A note on tech vocab- “native” means the device the app was designed for. For example, an app that is iPod native will also run on iPad, but not full-screen in high resolution. A “universal” app runs on both iPod and iPad in full-screen. “iOS” is the operating system used by iPod/iPhone/iPad. iPod refers to iPod touch, it should be assumed that all apps that run on iPod also run on iPhone. “In-app purchases” are an option when additional features or functions are available for a cost within an app.
If you would like access to add apps to the list, please click Share and enter the email address associated with your Google account (Gmail, Google Apps for education, or other Google Apps account). PLEASE EDIT THIS LIST CAREFULLY and email Sean (sean@speechtechie.com) if you need assistance with an edit or accidentally mess something up. It can be easily restored, thank you.

Language In Motion, (LIM, 6.99) is a comprehensive application designed for the iPad that enables the user to gain the language skills necessary for coding and communicating ideas relating to ongoing events, past occurrences and future actions in daily life. LIM promotes the acquisition of the underlying syntactical rules relating to appropriate verb selection/usage. LIM, by design, has as its focus the conjugation of five verb forms: present tense, present progressive tense, past tense (both irregular and regular formats), past progressive tense, and future tense, which are then paired with appropriate subject nouns or pronouns.(Both singular and compound). LIM provides the opportunity for the user to acquire these expressive language skills in a stimulating, motivating and entertaining manner, with targets selected to represent activities of daily life.
LIM, as a powerful educational tool, eliminates structured drill lessons, minimizes the amount of direct teaching, and stores instructionally relevant data which will be both useful in program planning and reliable for accountability purposes. LIM elicits various preset levels of responses. LIM is interactive and engaging, provides constant and ongoing feedback, and contingent, positive reinforcement. LIM helps to maintain attention and interest and encourages the user to express his/her own thoughts and to become an active participant in the process of language learning. LIM’s job is complete when it generates a faxable Speech & Language Therapy Progress Report for each session.

Information about Key Word Kids
Key Word Kids provides a program to develop language comprehension through increasing understanding of Key Words (Information Carrying Words) used in a sentence. To show understanding of 4 Key Words, an example would be: ‘Make the dog run to Steffy’s bed’ with contrasts needed for dog, (e.g. cat) and run, (e.g. walk) and Steffy’s, (e.g. James’s) and ‘bed’ versus ‘chair’. In the Key Word Kids app, based on the principles of the Derbyshire Language Scheme ( Masidlover, 1982, UK), children follow increasingly longer and more difficult directions by interacting with the key characters in various fun and colourful realistic scenes, introducing the vocabulary in context. The app includes unique animation trees to help children focus on understanding verbs. There is also a recordable free play expression mode and five motivating mini games. Created by a Speech Language Pathologist and an Special Education teacher/School Counsellor/Play Therapist, the carefully graded sentence structures are great for all language learners including those learning English as a second language. The app has been specifically designed to support children with language and communication difficulties such as autism, apraxia of speech and language disorder (uneven development) or delayed language development. Various settings allow for instructions with text only to practice reading comprehension with functional responses. Key Word Kids is available for sale now at the iTunes Store (U.S.$27.99/Australian $29.99): https://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=778518837&mt=8 . ‘Fido&Pumpkin Position Words’ follows the 'Gradual Release of Responsibility' model of teaching and learning. It assumes that the teacher has introduced the concept of 'Position' to the class (The 'I do you watch', 'I do you help' phases). The app complements the third phase 'We do together'. It teaches the concept of ‘Position’ rather than just testing the child. Responses to selections are supportive so there is no adverse feedback; instead the app shows the child what his/her answer would look like and provides another opportunity to respond. An ear icon allows for differentiation - with a simple push the child hears the text on the page, thus catering for less able readers or new English learners. The illustrations have been hand cut from bright, colorful paper; the characters designed to look as though they have been constructed with split pins and are generic to broaden their appeal to all children.
This app aligns with:
The Common Core State Standards for Mathematics:
K.G 1. Describe objects in the environment using names of shapes, and describe the relative positions of these objects using terms such as above, below, beside, in front of, behind, and next to.
