Club Update January 2011

  1. Committee Meeting

After each club committee meeting William will produce a short update for club members so that you are aware of the items we are discussing.  The full minutes are contained in the club file.  Should you wish to raise any item directly with William, or any other committee member, please do so.

  1. Sub Committees

At the AGM in October William stated his intent to introduce sub committees.  The intention is that these will consider specific matters in more depth and ensure that considered and validated proposals are put to the committee.  These will speedup the management of the club and ensure closer scrutiny of issues by the most relevant club officers.  Sub committees will not have the authority to make & implement changes as they will have to bring their proposals to the main committee for approval. ie decide nothing but recommend everything.  The committee has endorsed this proposal and the sub committees will now come into being.

  1. Emergency Contact Details

The club holds some personal details of club members.  Whilst these are used in the administration of the membership arrangements, they also are a vital means of ensuring member safety and in communicating with members.  Sadly the records are not as complete or accurate as the committee would wish and accordingly membership names, email addresses, phone number and emergency contact phone number will be put on the club notice boards.  Please review your details and indicate if they are correct, or make the necessary amendments so that we may update the club records.

  1. Hiring of the Clubhouse Training Room

At the AGM in October there was a short discussion regarding the hiring of the clubhouse to raise much needed funds.  The committee has confirmed that the training room is available to hire by members and non members.

A 20% discount will apply for club members. The club may impose some restrictions on some bookings.  So as to protect the awareness of the combination lock number, non members will be issued a key to the front door and the door to the boat storage area will be closed to protect club equipment.   A poster will be put up informing members in advance when the training room is unavailable for club use.   If you are interested in booking the club, please contact William.

  1. Row Safe

In order to promote safe rowing on the Deben by the end of February all coaches and committee members are to sign the Row safe folder saying that they have read and understood it.  The folder is in the training room.  David Hodgkinson will be ensuring that incident sheets are correctly filled out after capsizes.

  1. Day Membership Rates

As a requirement of British Rowing, the club makes the Explore recreational rowing boats available to non members.  Accordingly the £10 day member rate provides for equipment insurance and membership.  A reduced rate of £5 applies to members guests if they solely use member’s own equipment. In all instances club rules are to be observed and the log book filled out.

  1. Early Morning Saturday Sessions

So as to enable the Saturday early morning group and the main session to have an adequate number of suitable boats the early morning group will use Raedwald (+4) and Woodbridge Community Council (x4) for outings of any duration.  Should the conditions be inclement the recreational boats could be used though they and any other club boats must be returned to the clubhouse for 9am so that they are available for the main session.  Neil Cawthorn will coordinate the numbers of rowers going out in the early morning sessions.
