INDUSTRIAL LUBRICATION

INTRODUCTION

What is basically Lubrication?

Lubrication is the process of reducing friction. Friction is the key work in understanding lubrication. Friction has been defined as the force interposed between contacting surfaces of two bodies and resists motion of one body relative to the other. Another words friction is the resistance felt when rubbing one body against another.

How is friction actually caused ? If any metal surface no matter how smooth is observed through a microscope the surface will be seen to be jagged. This the basic cause of friction. Since when two metal surfaces which slide against retarding smooth sliding action. Weak is caused when the jagged edges break off and if the edges continue to wear, deterioration of the metal surface takes place.

Lubrication is simply defined as the science of reducing friction by the instruction for suitable friction reducing substances between the rubbing surfaces of bodies having relative motion.

Lubricants dot the lubrication. These many grease oil or lubricants which provides the temporary lubrication for the maintenance industry. But it does not lubricate the machine poot. From the damage of friction and wear for a long period. This is called the ordinary oil or grease or lubricants. Ordinary lubricants have the napthanic base which cause to acid wear, frictional wear.

But same company has made the specialized lubricants which have paraffin base, which benefits for the machine poot as well as the gear industries. It does the major role in maintenance industry. This specialized lubricant has the Wear Resistant multipurpose. Gear Lubricant that controls Acid Wear and frictional wear. Specialized lubricant oil allows transmissions differentials and gear boxes to run at maximum service life.

DEVELOPMENT OF VARIOUS SPECIALIZED LUBRICANTS

Special lubricants division has developed and formulated special high performance greases that provide “extra duty” lubrication under a wide variety of difficult operating condition. These special lubricants which are multipurpose are engineered to outer from ordinary lubricating oil or greases.

Special multipurpose industrial lubricants provide the uses with many advantages

  1. Improved machinery performance
  2. Elimination of misapplication
  3. Simplification of inventory
  4. Reduced costly inventory and storage space requirements
  5. Versatility of uses
  6. Reduced breakdown or production loss time

The following are some case histories of applications where these supervisor quality (special) lubricants were proven

  1. A) Primary fan bearings of cement kilns was one application where these special lubricant was tested. Heat from the burner end of the kiln was radiated to this area and was super imposed upon bearing generated. The normal temperature for the bearing using ordinary grease came to as high as 121 degree Celsius. With the application of special lubricants the temperature dropped to about 79 degree Celsius.

B) The bearings of ten fans used in an annealing oven of a large steel mill lubricated with ordinary grease while ten fans were lubricated with specialist lubricant. Normal working temperature of these bearings are about 115 degree Celsius. After months operation, six fans lubricated with ordinary grease broke down while those lubricated with special lubricants continued working for another two years.

  1. Heat with high humidity

  1. In canning factories, superheated steam is used to sterilize and evacuate containers, all in one operation. Temperature up to 26 degree Celsius are encountered and in cooler locations, moisture from condensation is formed. Special lubricants was tested in such environments and demonstrated its ability to handle the lubrication on this equipment.

  1. In “lumber industry” steam is introduced into the steam that is used to dry lumber in a kiln. The steam helps control the rate of drying. The center fan bearings of this equipment encounters both the heat and the moisture. The special multipurpose lubricant was tested in this application and adhered tenaciously despite the severe and has file operating conditions.

3) Water contamination

Water interferes with the lubrication process as well as permitting the corrosion of moving joints. Water can enter bearings when seals are inadequate on in poor condition and when grease does not adhere to the journal to form a sealing collar.

  1. Some industries such as mills require bearings to operate under submerged conditions. Although designed so that the bearings would be totally enclosed. This was rarely the case. The grease expected to provide the seal against water washing and mixture in the water. The extremely water resistant special lubricant was able to lubricate under such condition when other greases could not.

  1. In a beer – canning operation, hot water is usually used to wash down the equipment under high pressure. The purpose is cleanliness, but the effect on ordinary greases is the tendency to wash it off the applied part. Water washing together with contamination with bear, a limited lubrication reservoir and in certain eases, close tolerances, provide a severe test of any lubricant specialized lubricant withstood all these difficult operating condition and provided better lubricant.

Supreme Tenacity

This specialized has a marked ability to follow a gear train and stay in position. This well known lubricant trait has been subject to many – mainly unuseful attempts to copy or assimilate these actions. However there is always a difference between the ‘copy’ and the genuine quality of special oil. This special lubricant retains a fine film on the metal surface regardless of how thoroughly it is wiped away. This one aspect ensures that the specialized lubricant oil is performing its special function. Ordinary gear oils migrate away from the metal surface. They leave the friction surface exposed to direct and unprotected contact. This lends itself to oxidation and oxidation causes corrosion. Corrosion is the ‘metal cancer’ of industry.

Compensatory Thermostat Action

This specialized lubricant oil contains billions of extremely sensitive, microthermostat action nitrodecafluron polymers that compensate for the natural tendencies of an oil to thin out or thicken when subjected to high and low temperature fluctuations. These polymers become expanded when the oil temperature is high and the oil is therefore thinned. They contract when the oil temperature is low, and the oil is therefore thicker. This expansion and contraction action is accomensatory action essential to the quality of the lubricant and the protection of the equipment.

Nitrodecafluoron polymers (NDFP) can be likened to a spring loaded metal roll. Each tiny polymer is so sensitive that even very slight temperature fluctuations create either a slight expansion or contraction (depending on whether the environment was hot or cold). The instant that a temperature drop is experienced the polymer spring immediately shuts, allowing the fluidity of the lubricant to retain its original characteristic and bypass clearances with the same dynamic ‘bearing’ function as that during ambient temperature conditions, equipment wear rapidly and any number of internal ‘hot spot’ formed soon transform into gums and varnish, foaming heavy carbon buildups. The specialized lubricant oil resists these costly and regular defects through scientific development CTA.

SYSTEMS OF LUBRICATION

Various means are employed to supply lubricant to bearings and to gears. It is important that the proper method be selected. A brief description of some system is given here:

  1. Hand oiling – Suitable for slow speed and lightly loaded bearings.
  2. Drop – feed or Rock – feed oilers – Better than hand oiling, since the supply of lubricant is more nearly uniform.
  3. Oil rings or chains – Suitable for horizontal bearings. The ring or chain is slipped over the shaft at the midpoint of the bearing, runs with the shaft, and carries oil to the bearing from the reservoir into which it dips. This type of lubrication has been very widely used for motors, generators, and the shafts.
  4. Splash system – In this system a rotating part, such as a gear, or a rotating disk, called an oil slinger, runs in an oil reservoir and causes a shower of oil in the enclosed casing. The oil runs into channels and ducts and is led to the bearings. A continuous supply of lubricant may be secured by this method.
  5. Pressure feeding – Bearing may be positive lubricated by introducing lubricant under pressure at the proper points of the bearing. This method ensures an adequate of lubricant at pressure suffering under conditions of fluid – film lubrication. The flow of lubricant may in such quantities that rest of heat generated in the bearing will be carried away be lubricant itself, so that the viscosity of the lubricant may thus be controlled. They may be necessary in heavily loaded bearings.
  6. Grease lubrication – Parts loaded heavily and with low speeds so that fluid – film lubrication is not possible, grease my be used. Grease may be used also where dripping or spattering of oil is not permissible, as in food – or chemical – processing equipment.
  7. Shaft seals – In order to prevent leakage of the lubricant of the lubricant from a bearing and to prevent foreign matter from entering, shaft seals may be necessary. Seals are available in many forms, such as felt or leather inserted in groove in the bearing housing, or they may be purchased separately as a self – contained sent to mount in the housing.

AUTOMATIC INDUSTRIAL LUBRICATION SYSTEMS

What are the benefits?

The process of "automatic lubrication" has many benefits and advantages over conventional methods of manual lubrication.

Our service can save your business money by keeping your equipment running smoothly.

Here are just a few of the benefits of installing an automatic-lubrication system:

INDUSTRIAL AND MILITARY CHARACTERISTIC

For many years, the military establishment of the world have tried and tested hundreds and thousands of different gear oils for the purpose of finding one that can meet the International Climatic Stability Requirements (ICSR). These specialized lubricant oil not only meets these requirements, but also exceeds then with a basic operating temperature range of – 3 degree Celsius to 210 degree Celsius.specialized oil tolerates both sub – arctic and Namibian Desert Climates.

Extreme Pressure

Specialized multi purpose lubricant oil is heavily fortfied with carefully calibrated, extreme pressure resistant supplements. Its additional supplements for corrosion resistance, oxidation resistance, water wash qualities and many other far outnumber those of most of ordinary gear oils. The special extreme pressure are designed to withstand such adverse performance condition as,

LOAD

INDUCTION

LIMITED RADIATION

Compression

Displacement

High Pressure Disp.

Impact

Contact Migration

Explosive migration

Shock

Surface Depolarization

Implosive Fragmentation

Impression

Capacitance Thermal Conductivity

Reverberation Contact Chaff

Friction Modifications

The specialized lubricant oil contains a selection of friction modifiers. These supplements have only been recently developed and this special lubricant oil is considered to be one of the few gear oils to boast their uses.

Limited Slip Differential Performance

The specialized lubricant oil performs well in limited slip differentials. In contrast, ordinary gear oil form a heavy energy consuming drag and the oil migrates away from friction area.

Hypoid Gear Application

Specialized lubricant oil can be used in the hypoid gears where the pinion gear is less than 25 % of crown wheel or where the pinion and crown wheel has more than 2 inches of offset ordinary gear oils are not bale to achieve these things very well.

Waterproof

Specialized lubricant oil is completely water wash resistant. It resists consideration and humidity, rain and other form of water contact.

Vibration Resistant

Specialized lubricant oil, dramatically reduces the noise in the gear system. This prevent, scuffing, soaring, galling, pitting and scrapping. These major causes of noise are largely eliminated by special lubricant oil and promotes gear silence.

Applications

Initial fill, top – up or refill:

  1. Automotive transmission
  2. Hypoid differentials (especially limited slip type)
  3. Steering gear boxes

SPECIALIZED LUBRICANT WITH HUNDRED PERCENT PARAFFIN BASE

Description

The special lubricant is  a 100 %. STRAIGHT paraffin gear oil designed for high purity gear applications. It contains the result of a unique blending procedure whereby the finest quality, solvent refined Paraffin oil is jelled with hyper purity and dewaxed cylinder quality mineral based oil which provide the super standard of lubricity that ordinary gear oils are unable to attend.

Corrosion Resistance

This specialized multipurpose lubricant oil is inhabited against corrosion and oxidation. Its pure saturated characteristic ensures gear surface protection at our times.

Foaming Resistance

This specialized lubricating oil is also foam resistant and it can withstand sustained gear action without aerating.

Increased Film Strength

This is superior to the other ordinary oils so called ‘straight’ mineral oils because its increased film strength can resist wear. This products protects gears for larger periods under severe conditions.

Acidic Action Resistance

As a result of this specialized multipurpose paraffin based oils purity, the normal oxidation characteristic which forms damaging acidic deposits is impossible.

Operating Temperature

The specialized multipurpose lubricant oil, operates at both ultralow temperatures were ordinary oils begin to drag and consume constant energy and at higher temperature where it’s body structure remains stable. Ordinary oils thin down so badly that gears rapidly detoriates and fail.

AGMA STANDARDS

This special oil meets and exceeds all American gear manufacturers association (AGMA) standards which consists of

(oils marked ‘comp’ are compounded with 3 to 10 % acidlers. Tallow or other types of animal fat.).

Regardless of enclosures, speed, size, environment, method of lubrication and the accessibility of gears. This special multipurpose paraffinic base gear oil provides an exceptionally high viscosity standard that combats galling, rippling, pitting and similar failure faults ordinary gear oils cannot cope with the type of operation that today’s high speed, high powered gears are fabricated etc.

DEMONSTRATIONS OF LUBRICANTS

DEMONSTRATION NO. 1

Take a Jan ¼ or 1/3 full of any other brand of gear oil. The brand does not matter as this special lubricant oil on any test will surpass all competitive brands. Also required is the same size jar filled the same amount with special lubricant oil.

Use SAE go weight of both oils. Next insert an egg beater into each jar. First stir the competitive brand with the egg better showing that it foams, does not follow a gear train and does not protect the gear case which do not need lubrication, but does not lubricate the gear. Next use the other egg beater in the jar of special lubricant to show that there is practically no foaming and the oil follows a gear train particularly and that the gear is completely protected. Point out also the red color which makes it easy to identify a leak if one is present.

DEMONSTRATION NO 2

First dip a cylindrical iron rod in a sample of gear oil (preferably the customer’s). Show that it can be picked up by gripping the end between the thumb and forefinger. This demonstrates that the lubricating film of oil is not slippery enough to prevent your forefingers from gripping the end of the iron rod with a rag. Be sure to point out how easily the gear oil can be wiped off.

For the second part of the test, dip the end of the iron and in a sample of special lubricant oil. Show that no matter how hard you try, the iron rod can not be picked up by gripping the end between the thumb and forefinger. This proves that the superior lubricating film of special lubricant oil is so slippery that you can not pick up the iron rod because there is no friction between your fingertips and the metal surface. Then try to wipe the special lubrication oil off the iron rod. You can point out the fact that it is so difficult to wipe off indicates it will cling to the bearing surfaces and provide lubrication for the critical first few revolutions of the motor after it has been stationary idle and ordinary gear oil would have drained away.

ADVANTAGES OF SPECIALIZED LUBRICANTS OVER THE ORDINARY LUBRICANT OIL OR THE FEATURES OF THE SPECIALIZED LUBRICANTS

High Water Resistance

Specialized lubricant oil is extremely water resistant. Many users simply drain accumulated condensation periodically leaving pure gear lubricant in the gear box. Ordinary gear lubricants can mix with water and prevent the gear oil and bearings.

Anti – Oxidation Qualities

In the past it has been necessary to keep several different types of gear oils on hand to properly lubricate the different type of gear encountered. Now by this specialized lubricant oil you are certain of proper lubrication whether you have worm gears, hypoid gears, gear heads, spur or bevel gears wherever an E. P. gear oil is specified.

Non Foaming Qualities

Specialized lubricant oil is foam inhibited. This eliminates pressure against the seals and keeps consumption to minimum. There is no evaporation loss as occurs with lower quality gear oils.

Adhesive – Cohesive Qualities

The inclusion of special additives improves the adhesion of specialized lubricant oil to metal surfaces and the especial extreme ressure additives prevent wear. The wiping and sliding action of gear teeth wipes lower quality gear lubricants from the contracting tooth surfaces. This results in ‘dry gears’ which allows metal to contact. This condition precipitates premature wear.

Finest Ingredients

Special lubricant oil is made from high quality base oils that have a,

  1. High natural viscosity index
  2. High flash point
  3. High heat resistance
  4. Natural lubricity
  5. Low acid number (neutralization number)

Since special multipurpose lubricant oil utilizes only the finest raw materials, complete protection is offered against the four enemies of gear lubrication.

Acid – Pressure – Foam – Temperature

Heat Resisting Properties

Special lubricant oil has an extremely high flash point. A gear oil with a natural high flash point can with stand more heat than one with a lower flash point. The rich tenacious lubrication film provided between gear teeth eliminates a major amount of frictional heat. The foam inhibitors cause a reduction in tendency to build up a pressure and rupture seals then is possible with lower quality products. This product, due to stable high viscosity index does not thicken appreciably in cold weather nor thin excessively in hot whether as those oils with a lower viscosity index.

APPLICATION SPECIALIZED LUBRICANTS

  1. This specialized lubricant allows transmissions, differentials and gear boxes to run at maximum efficiency for maximum service life.
  2. This lubricant used in the maintenance industries.
  3. It is used in gear boxes as well as in bearing to reduce the friction. It also used in the lathe machines, universal milling machines and wherever there is a mechanism of gears.
  4. This special lubricant only benefit to all gears such as worm gears, spiral gears, bevel gears and hypoid gears.

CONCLUSION

Lubrication is simply defined as the science of reducing friction by the instruction for suitable friction reducing substances between the rubbing surfaces of bodies having relative motion. The process of "automatic lubrication" has many benefits and advantages over conventional methods of manual lubrication.
