Double page spread
Magazine: Radar

- The colour scheme for the ‘radar’ editions of NME for up-and-coming talent and bands always use a light blue colour. The light blue ties the double page spread together as there are dashes of this colour all around the page.
- The photograph takes up one page of the double page spread and the text features around the image and also the opposite side.
- The articles text is arranged as a column view, which is similarly the same as most articles and newspapers. The text begins with a drop capital which is usually a convention of articles.
- The magazine is also advertising other bands on the right hand side which is usually the case in a music magazine.
- The nominalisation of a phrase is brought out of the article and arranged with a light blue colour to entice the reader and also bring attention.
- The bold text and same font throughout shows plain and simple, yet not boring with the usage of colouring.
- Large image bleeds to the edges of the page and is eye catching .
- The mast head and text is clearly laid out making it easy to read and understand.

Double page spread
Magazine: Time out (Sydney)

- Plain and basic with an image as a background
- Typically similar to channel 4’s advertisements of television shows
- Black text on a cloud blue background proves effective as it stands out
- The two persons in the image show relevance as they take part in the ‘conversation’ discussed.
- Bold and non-bold text shows variety without being too extreme
- This would be suitable for my double page spread as channel 4 documentaries tend to be very plain and simple with a powerful image as shown above.

Double spread page
Magazine: Xtra

- Shows new layout of a magazine with images of different pages that will feature in the magazine
- Time line at the bottom shows evolution of ‘xtra’
- Very detailed due to the extensive amount of writing
- Column view
- Colour scheme of red, white and black proves to be simple yet enticing
- Bold writing doesn’t over power the double page spread, yet still stands out

- The main title is in the form of a quotation stretching across both pages, I feel this works well as it involves both pages with the readers main view point.
- There is a smaller amount of text and more images placed along the bottom of both pages
- Restricted colour scheme of black white and red
- The fact that the images are all black and white connotes the idea that maybe this type of double page spread is for an older audience.
