Lee’s Martial Arts Website and FaceBook Page

Our website http://www.leesbloomington.com is an excellent resource for keeping up to date on what is going on at Lee’s.  We update regularly.  The  Member’s Area is a page that is only available to registered students and parents and has full forms videos, a copy of the current Student Guide, as well as option to pay your tuition and test fees online via PayPal, credit, or debit card.  It just requires you to register and login with an account and password.

Our FaceBook page is another excellent resource that is updated in real time.  Here you will find current photos, event announcements, and the latest news at Lee’s.  This is also a good place to ask us questions and give us feedback on how we are doing.

Family Movie Night - 28 Sept 2012

Family Movie Night

We hosted our first free family movie night on Friday, 28 September.  A mixture of about 25 kids and parents watched the movie Avatar: The Last Air Bender and enjoyed snacks.  Look for more such events in the future.  Thanks to Master Geissman and Master Price for heading this up and all that attended.

Future monthly event ideas are:

  • Holiday Themed Parties (such as the Halloween Party) on 27 Oct).
  • Parent’s Night Out (Enjoy some personal time out while you know your children are safe and having fun.  What could be better than your child hanging out with friends, playing games, and improving their training).
  • Pizza Parties (self explanatory).

If you have a preference, let us know. Some of these will be free and some will events will have a fee.

Five Quick Ways to Add Exercise to Your Day

Even if you don't have time to fit in the recommended 30 minutes a day of exercise, you can do small spurts that really add up.  These quickies will burn calories, build muscle, and increase your energy.

1. Park at the far end of the parking lot everywhere you go.  Not only will you burn calories, but you won't have to fight for a parking space!

2. Use the stairs.  If you get winded, start by taking the elevator one or two flights from your desired floor, and then work on adding more flights.  Did you know you use different muscles going up and going down?

3. Cut your lunch in half.  It doesn't take that long to eat a salad.  Use the rest of your lunchtime to get in a walk around the building or get in a quick workout.

4. Pace while on the phone or do some light stretches or leg lifts.  Even in a crowded office, you can do some resistance exercises at your desk.

5. Instead of sending an inter-office envelope or email, get up and deliver it yourself.  Getting out of your chair every hour is beneficial to your health.

Halloween Safety Tips

Swords, knives, and similar accessories should be short, soft, and flexible.

Avoid trick-or-treating alone. Walk in groups or with a trusted adult.

Fasten reflective tape to costumes and bags to help drivers see you.

Examine all treats for choking hazards and tampering before eating them. Limit the treats you eat.

Hold a flashlight while trick-or-treating to help you see and others see you. Always WALK and don't run from house to house.

Always test make-up in a small area first. Remove it before bedtime to prevent irritation.

Look both ways before crossing the street. Use established crosswalks where possible.

Lower your risk for serious eye injury by not wearing decorative contact lenses.

Only walk on sidewalks whenever possible, or on the far edge of the road facing traffic.

Wear well-fitting masks, costumes, and shoes to avoid blocked vision, trips, and falls.

Eat only factory-wrapped treats. Avoid eating homemade treats made by strangers.

Enter homes only if you're with a trusted adult.

Never walk near candles or luminaries. Be sure to wear flame-resistant costumes.

Century Orders

We will be taking orders for holiday gifts from Century Martial Arts and will offer some specials and events for specific items.  One such event will be for a Kid Kick package.  This is a small kicking bag (we have some in the school), with a kick shield, hand pad, foam blocker, and instructional DVD.  Our price will be $175.00 which includes shipping and handling and is over a $35 savings off the regular price.

For other items, you can look at the catalogs in the school or visit the Century website at http://www.centuryma.com and pick items from there.  We can offer to save you the shipping costs, which is about 10% of the catalog and website price.

Referral Program

How would you like to earn extra tuition?  Simply refer a new student and if they sign up we’ll credit you with a month of tuition.  Our goal is to share our knowledge of the martial arts with as many people as possible.  THANK YOU for being a part of the Lee's Martial Arts family, and for making

that goal possible.  We appreciate you – every day!

Expecting trick-or-treaters or party guests?

Provide healthier treats for trick-or-treaters, such as low-calorie treats and drinks. For party guests, offer a variety of fruits, vegetables, and cheeses.

  • Use party games and trick-or-treat time as an opportunity for kids to get their daily dose of 60 minutes of physical activity.
  • Keep walking areas and stairs bright and free of obstacles that could result in falls.
  • Keep candle-lit jack-o' lanterns and luminaries away from doorsteps, walkways, landings, and curtains. Place them on sturdy tables, keep them out of the reach of pets and small children, and never leave them unattended.
  • Remind drivers to watch out for trick-or-treaters and to drive safely.

Follow these tips to help make the    festivities fun and safe for everyone!

Embroidered Uniform Tops

Embroidered Uniforms

We will be taking monthly orders for embroidered uniform tops.  These are very well done and look great.  We are working to get back to traditional uniform colors in the school.  Traditional colors are white for TKD and black for HKD.  Because of this, any new uniforms for students, will follow this tradition.  We can have the logo embroidered onto existing uniform tops for $25 or you can order a new uniform with embroidered top for $50-$60 depending on the size.  Orders will be placed the last Friday of each month and order forms are in the school.
