BROWN LEDGE CAMP
JOB DESCRIPTION

REPORTS TO: Kitchen Manager
OVERVIEW: Brown Ledge Camp is seeking a motivated and experienced Chef for the summer season. We feed about 275 people three times per day on a set schedule. More details about our camp can be found at www.brownledge.org.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Work with the other Chef to create and implement menus.
- Assure that all food and personal safety policies are followed.
- Train and supervise a diverse group of international kitchen assistants.
- Help campers and staff with special dietary concerns.
- Keep the kitchen and dining area clean, support trash and compost removal
- Able to stay calm, cool, and collected in a fast paced, ever changing environment
- Maintain high standards of physical and emotional safety for all campers and staff. Discuss any issues with camp nurses and/or camp directors when appropriate.
Qualifications: (Minimum Education and Experience)
- Must be 18+ years of age and at least one year out of high school.
- Must have excellent culinary skills with fresh ideas and recipes
- Must have experience cooking for large groups of people
- Current First Aid and CPR certification. Camp provides this onsite free of charge.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong work ethic and a commitment to making the camp culinary experience the best it can be.
- Ability to make meals for several dietary restrictions including but not limited to: dairy free, gluten free, vegan, and vegetarian.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Ability to foster an inclusive, equitable, and welcoming work environment.
- Ability to relate to youth and adults in a positive manner.
- Ability to ensure safety and administer first aid when necessary.
- Ability to lift/carry cleaning supplies such as mops and buckets.
Physical Aspects of the Job: This job requires the ability to lift fifty pounds unassisted, stand for long periods, prepare foods quickly and safely, and interact appropriately and respectfully with the campers and staff.
