STATEMENT OF INTEREST

VP Internal

Dear AAS PTO -

My name is Julie Michaels and I have been in Moscow on and off since 1993. I most recently

returned to Russia in 2018, after living in the UK for six years. I have two children who started at AAS this year – a son in grade 10 and a daughter in grade 7. I also have one older son who is in his first year at university in the US. My husband is Australian, and I am American. We met each other here in Moscow nearly 30 years ago.

I hold both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Russian Language and Literature, as well as an Elementary Teaching Certification. I have worked in many different capacities in both Moscow and the United Kingdom – including owning a restaurant, elementary teaching, and

school admissions. While in the UK I served as the President of PIRC – a parent volunteer group that focused specifically on assisting families with transition into, through, and out of the school. I also served on the school’s Gala committee for several years, one year as Chairperson.

Although the unusual circumstances of this school year have not allowed me to become as involved with the PTO as I would have normally, I have attended most of the virtual events. I recently started a PTO Book Club, and I am the Grade 10 Parent Representative. I have also

become involved with the school this year as a Substitute Teacher and by serving as a parent representative on the AAS Strategy Partners Group.

As we go forward into what I hope will be a more ‘normal’ school year next year, I would like very much to join the PTO Board as VP Internal. I believe that my previous professional and volunteer experience will allow me to successfully fulfill this role. I enjoy working with others and particularly enjoy event planning and management – both key roles for the VP Internal.
