Safety in SEL Kickboard
- 71% of positive student responses to ‘I feel safe in school’
- 84% of positive student responses for ‘I understand my moods and feelings’
- 87% of positive responses for ‘There are many things I do well’
- 55% of ‘I stop and think before doing anything when I get angry’
- 75% of ’I keep trying even when I can solve a problem easily’
- 41% of ‘I try to talk to other students if I am having a problem with them’
- 55% of 'Most students in my schools treat each other with respect’
- Noticing a correlation between negative or mixed Student to Student interactions
Next Steps for SEL Kickboard
- Students will be taking their monthly Kickboard Survey in first week of January
- Staff will work on Meta moments in a PL(professional learning) where students can take actionable steps to reflect and resolve conflicts led by a teacher
- Example: Roary’s wheel where students/teachers can identify and pick a conflict resolution strategy
- Example of Safety: teachers/staff communicates with students on what is safe and unsafe actions and why an action may be unsafe without saying arbitrary words such as “that’s unsafe”
RSMA Reading Curriculum, Assessment, and Instruction
- RSMA students are meeting early reading comprehension such as decoding, phonological awareness, and sight recognition but have not mastered reading comprehension which is expected from grades 3-8.
- Goals: know every student well through detailed assessment and progress monitoring
- RSMA has included 3-8 RSMA Reading Checkpoint Assessments
- Added new core curriculum for Science and expand science instructional time
- Added new core curriculum for ELA/Social students that focus on Decoding language(phonics) and implement the Hochman method(The Writing Revolution)
- Train Teachers on Acadience Progress Monitoring to ensure K-2 Reading Goals are met as data shows students who are unable to read by 3rd grade have significant difficulty in academics
Open Forum
- PTA is keeping track of of their previous projects/works/goals so that any new PTA board members can keep its continuity
- RSMA does not have a strong reading culture
- How can we foster a love for reading in our homes with parents and students
- Helping parents and students to create reading time
- Students should know what topics they want to read and start to develop a love for reading
- Weekly book clubs/Reviews by Kids for Kids
- Having trips to libraries or bookstores
- Creating hype around opening new books for kids
- Reading Carnival/Scholastic Book Fair
- Having Families come to shop for books in RSMA to read together
