                                                                9-12 Parent Checklist

Welcome to Tonka Online!  We are excited that you have decided to participate in online learning with us this term.  Please see the check list below to help you and your child best prepare for their online learning experience.

Put a Check in the box when done

Use this checklist as your child gets started in their online course(s).

Complete the Online Parent and Student Agreement Form (Also linked in email communication)

Claim your Parent MY SSO account using the instructions sent from the helpdesk.

During the claim process you will set a Password to use with the MY SSO portal. (Note: Parents have a separate MY SSO account from students.)

Then, practice Logging into MY SSO on the www.minnetonkaschools.org website with your Username and Password to Access Schoology.  Contact the family.helpdesk@minnetonkaschools.org if needed.

Schoology: This is the learning system that will include course content and grades.  Parents can login to their child’s Schoology account by using their Parent MY SSO login and selecting the Schoology icon in My SSO.  You will then need to switch to your child in the upper right corner to view their courses, progress, and grades.  Note, your child’s courses may not be active until the first day of the term.

For more details and help, please view the Parent Guide for Schoology

Skyward: This is our student management system that stores final grades, attendance, and where students can make payments if needed.

Parents can login to Skyward and view their child’s information by using their Parent MY SSO login and selecting the Skyward Icon in MY SSO.

If you have multiple children in the system, you can switch to view all your children’s information in the Skyward system by toggling in the upper left corner.

Verify that you have a current email in Skyward to allow for timely communications with your teachers and other district communication during the term.  If needed, please contact the webhelpdesk.to@minnetonkaschools.org to update your email in Skyward.

Help your child Develop a daily routine for checking Schoology Messages, school email, and Schoology Updates to help stay connected to their course and instructor.

Help your child schedule the time that they will engage in online class during the week.  Suggest things like: Creating an event on their calendar to block off time, setting reminders in a To Do app, setting alarms or reminders to engage in their online courses.

Help your child locate a distraction free work space for engaging in online learning.  Tips to help avoid digital distractions:  Digital Health and Wellness Resources

Help your child have a Plan for Procrastination:  What will they do when / if they get stuck during the term?  How will they contact or communicate with their instructor when there are questions? Plan to check in with them to help monitor progress at the end of each school day.

Locate how to connect with course instructors if needed.  Many instructors will have their contact information posted in a “Welcome” folder in Schoology for each course.
