Chickering Technology
The Chickering Technology Program allows all students to learn with technology. Students use tools in order to develop a deeper understanding of the world around them and to convey their thoughts. With guidance, students grow into capable, confident and responsible users of technology.
A Continuum of Skills
From
“Hey, look what it does!”
to
“Watch what I can make it do!”
to
“Look what this can do for me!”
With a common thread of “How did you do that?”
Here at Chickering, we focus on computer science skills. Students are introduced to foundational concepts in computer science by integrating basic skills in technology with simple ideas about computational thinking. K-5 students work in the strands of 1.) computational thinking, 2.) collaboration, 3.) computing practice and programming, 4.) computers and communication devices and 5.) community, global and ethical impacts.
Students in kindergarten receive technology instruction every week. Students in grades 1-5 receive technology instruction for half of the year. Beginning in second grade, students use their Google Drive account to create a multimedia presentation while students in third grade create a personal timeline. Students in fourth grade continue their use of Google Drive to create a spreadsheet complete with functions. Fifth grade students work with stop motion animation software to plan and create a short video.
