1. Call to Order

Meeting Called to order at 6:39 pm

2. Interested in Treasury or VP (Hydi Gibson)

  • Neighbor Hydi Gibson is interested in one of the open board positions. Unfortunately, at the last minute, she was unable to attend tonight to meet with the other board members.

3. S. Alamo Road Closure

  • There was a road closure on S. Alamo all the way South to the intersection of Alamo/S. Presa/St. Mary’s  with no notice to the neighborhood and neighbors who would be directly impacted.
  • October is a huge month full of events, and we need the City to notify us before closures like this occur
  • LNA is in touch with the City to prevent issues like this in the future.
  • The current project is planned 3 week construction. If the project is delayed beyond the 3 week LNA plans to hold the City to task to allow access to the street, at the very least, during events.
  • LNA does not want the City to re-route traffic through the neighborhood

4. Traffic Updates

  • Marcy has attempted to follow up with David Pullido at the City about fixing various problematic intersections in the neighborhood, including the St. Mary’s/Eagleland intersection, the Jacobs/Vitra/St. Mary’s intersection, Cesar Chavez/Labor, etc. , and although she has followed up, she has not received a response.
  • Marcy advises that we get the D1 Reps on the calendar with a meeting, and then a follow-up meeting 3 weeks later (recurring as needed) to put the heat on the City.

5. Update from Darryl Ohlenbusch re Historic

  • Darryl believes we are about ready to have the zoning meetings.
  • Flyers are ready in English and Spanish, but he believes they should accompany additional information about expanding the historic designation and about upcoming meetings. We will tweak the flyers to add a tag line, etc.
  • Kat has offered to host a meeting at her house. We could maybe do it on Saturday, Nov. 11 in the morning at Kat’s house.
  • Darryl expresses a preference is to have OHP staff there to answer questions.

6. Art in the Park - October 14, 2023 from 10 am - 3pm at Florida St. Park

  • Vendors are:
  • By Mother’s Touch
  • Nona’s Niche
  • Tejas Glass
  • Mazed
  • Alamo City Rocks & Crystals
  • Sweet Baker
  • Rosa’s Rusas
  • I Used to Be Fun Handmade
  • JQ Art Studio
  • Chrissy Olvera
  • Tamales
  • ALA will have a recruiting table with a face painter (from 10-12)
  • A firetruck will come for an hour (likely 11-12)
  • We will ask the SAFFE Officer to come out in her police car
  • We are working on music - the issue is power. Brian may be able to lend his van with power, and Mike will ask Southtown Vinyl to play music.
  • Road closure expense will be $350.
  • The tables will be just shy of $300.
  • Marcy is providing cookies by Southtown Sweets for LNA to serve as fundraisers.
  • Mike is going to ask his friends who do drawing art, shirts, to see if they will participate.
  • We may sell solar glasses
  • We will have sidewalk chalk for kids, and we can add cornhole, big jenga, pumpkin painting
  • The event is dog friendly.
  • We will reach out to Bill Miller about donating tea.
  • We will sell drinks for $1.
  • We will have a raffle.
  • Brian will donate $200 to help recruit gift cards.
  • Mike will reach out to a BBQ vendor.

7. Opportunity Homes Grand Opening

  • Stephanie went to visit the Opportunity Homes’ Victoria Plaza grand opening
  • She was given a tour, and she said it looked nice and clean.
  • She learned that the building was built in 1959, and it’s the oldest high rise building in the nation.
  • She did notice that the drainage around the building was deteriorating.

8. Updates from Sarah re website

  • Sarah has been working on the draft of the squared space page to update the LNA website. The goal is to have the website ready by December so that we can take new membership on the new website at the January General Meeting

9. Oct 17 General Meeting

  • Will be at Freetail

10. Neighborhood Development

  • 620 S. Presa
  • (previously Senor Veggie), which will become Barrio Dog. They are already a LNA Member, and they have donated to the Art in the Park event.
  • HDRC ruled that they didn’t do their stucco appropriately, so they may be seeking LNA support for an appeal.
  • 1422 S. St. Mary’s
  • Patrick Christensen reached out to LNA.
  • It is zoned C3NA, but they are proposing IDZ-1. Lockwood City Group wants to turn it into a bar
  • Most of the board isn’t so opposed to the bar as we are to IDZ-1.
  • We will oppose for many reasons including no parking, and that it’s within 300 ft of a church.
  • 110 Kearney St. Duplex
  • LNA opposed the building of it and notated that we did not want them to construct a house that would impinge on the sidewalk
  • The City ignored our recommendation and ignored the rule that there be at least a 20 ft setback for a car to park, and now it’s 16 feet, so a car cannot park in the driveway without blocking the sidewalk
  • 114 W. Carolina
  • Live/work space for 10 units with 10 parking spaces
  • It will be a commercial downstairs with livable upstairs

11. Adjourn
