Course Description: The library is a place that promotes a love of reading. The library supports students in their personal reading needs. The general goal is to help to develop an continual appreciation for literature that will remain with the learner into adulthood.

First grade library media focuses on beginning reading readiness through  the introduction of the love of reading through the sharing of stories and the understanding of fairy tales. Fairy tales are foundational stories that help children learn how to handle problems, build emotional resiliency,learn a common language, learn elements of story structure, develop imagination and critical thinking skills and learn life lessons. First grade skills also include learning about the library and books. Students will be given the opportunity to learn about a popular grade level author through an author study. Students will be able to help choose a book that is nominated for a Wisconsin book award.
