Course Description
Health Education is a required semester course for 9th grade students. The class is designed to help students build knowledge and skills that promote lifelong health and wellness. Students will learn how their choices affect physical, mental, emotional, and social health. This course aligns with the Nevada Academic Content Standards for Health, ensuring that students develop skills to make informed decisions and live healthy, productive lives.

The curriculum is based on the eight standards for Health Education:
- Comprehending Concepts: Understand health promotion and disease prevention.
- Analyzing Influences: Recognize how family, peers, culture, and media influence health behaviors.

Nutrition & Physical Activity
- Food groups, balanced diet, and portion control.
- Reading nutrition labels and making informed choices.
- Importance of regular exercise for lifelong health.
Substance Abuse Prevention
- Effects of alcohol, tobacco, vaping, and drugs.
- Refusal skills and resisting peer pressure.
- Community and school resources for help.
Human Growth & Development
- Body systems and changes during adolescence.
- Healthy relationships and respect for self and others.
- Abstinence and making safe, informed choices.
Safety & First Aid
- Basic first aid and CPR awareness.
- Injury prevention and personal safety.
- Online and digital safety practices.
Disease Prevention & Community Health
- Communicable and non-communicable diseases.
- Public health resources and community support systems.
- Advocating for a healthier school and community.
Grading Policy
