Autumn 1

HUMANS - MARVELLOUS ME & MY FAMILY

HUMANS - MARVELLOUS ME, FAMILY & OTHERS

Planning is flexible to enable children to actively engage in 'first hand' outdoor learning experiences on a daily basis. Children observe natural phenomena up close and experience different weather conditions, as and when the seasonal changes occur. Through adult planned and child led experiences, children show curiosity and begin to develop a sense of awe and wonder about the natural world around them.

As children experience seasonal changes, they learn and develop an understanding of nature, growth, change and decay over time. They explore, ask questions and engage in science based investigations as they begin to develop their working scientific skills. Children build on these prior learning experiences supporting them to make connections and links across many different learning contexts; as they develop their own ideas and choose different ways of doing things.

Planning is flexible, to enable assessment information (gathered from observations, related to children’s individual interests and the way a child learns best); to inform planning and offer future experiences to enhance children's learning in an area of interest to the individual child.

Subject areas of interest may emerge from some of the following sources: children's favourite stories, non-fiction books, events from their own life experiences; and /or as a result of inquiry based learning, as they explore a wide range of objects and everyday manmade and natural materials.
