What is your plan for getting the city back to work, particularly in its hardest hit sectors? What kind of workforce development programs do you envision that would provide access to communities of color and people with disabilities?

I find that many of the workforce development that are in place are not preparing our out of work individuals for jobs of the future. We are moving towards a green economy. Solar panels are being installed, we are getting electrical cars and green roof etc. while young people are being trained for security guard positions, especially in the black and community. They should be trained so they can service the green technology and green infrastructure. The goal is for our workers to hold jobs that will cover their monthly expenses and for them not to rely on food stamps and public subsidies.

What is your plan for creating healthy stable communities? How do you envision enlivening vacant commercial and city owned spaces?

There are many vacant buildings throughout New York City. Some areas are zoned for manufacturing. I plan to have them rezoned to residential/ commercial overlays. We can re-purpose these buildings for housing with commercial/art space on the ground floor and artist lofts. I envision beautiful store front displays that encourage walking neighborhoods. With added foot traffic, there will be more coffee shops and restaurants

What do you foresee is the role of creative economies in supporting economic recovery in New York City particularly for communities most affected by environmental, housing, and health instability due to COVID including our aging, immigrant, and working class communities of color?

After being shut in for about a year due to the pandemic, many of New York residents that I have spoken to in the district are looking forward to being outside. Many people planned trips to New York City and did not get here due to the pandemic. We need to have them make their way back. I envision, our parks as places bring whole families to enjoy music (in all boroughs), see art displays and dine it nearby restaurants. I propose giving $50 vouchers to spend at small business and art/culture establishments (a list will be agreed upon) to tourists who spend a week or more at a New York City hotel. This will encourage more people to visit NYC and stimulate the economy.

What is your plan for the city’s school system and what is your vision of the role that arts in education plays?

New York City is getting an influx of education funding from both the Federal Government and New York State. This is the perfect opportunity to mandate that every school includes arts education as part of their curriculum. this is to create a well rounded individuals. Additionally, I will fight to ensure that our City Budget. I am also pushing for after school/beacon programs for every child. These programs will include conflict resolution, tutoring, art and music to supplement what they have learned in school during the day.

What is your plan to address the health care needs of the city's many communities?

Healthcare is a right. As we have seen in the pandemic, poor health can shut down the economy. Studies have shown that those with underlying conditions such as diabetes, obesity and high blood pressure were more likely to need hospitalization and to die. Healthcare is more than going to the doctor and getting medication. Health starts with nutrition and access to healthy food options. This is often an issues in poor and working class neighborhoods. I will work to promote farmers markets. I support low medical health coverage for all New City residents.

What are your plans for supporting incarcerated and formerly incarcerated New Yorkers?

.I support programs such as the one administered by Exodus Transitional Community Inc. https://www.etcny.org/about that assist the formerly incarcerated individuals through job training and mental health support. I found that when they leave jail or prison, they do not have the documents (birth certificate, state ID etc.). I will propose legislation that make these documents available to them upon discharge to ensure that they are ready on day one to start preparing to reintegrate into our society. Education while incarcerated will also be part of the integration plan. Education is not complete if it doesn't include the arts; therefore, I will push to ensure that this is part of their education as well.
