Grandmasters Season One wraps

Congrats to PNC from Americas, Surrender from Asia-Pacific, and Fenomeno from Europe

All three have guaranteed spots in the Global Finals which will take place at BlizzCon this year.

Fr0zen should get a slot just for making it that far with Pogo Hopper Rogue.

The Americas finals weren’t particularly interesting, but the semis were great. Eddie made it to the semis with Holy Wrath Paladin.

Card Reveal Schedule Announced

10 cards will be revealed by the next episode. 4 on the 19th, 3 on the 21st, and 3 on the 22nd.

Druid

Standard

• Floop’s Glorious Gloop (1 Mana Legendary Druid Spell: Whenever a minion dies this turn, gain 1 Mana)
• Is Cult Master going to come back? 7 mana - deal 4 damage, summon a 4/2 minion, draw 4 cards
• Overkill mechanics

• Seems strange because the Overkill minion wouldn’t be attacking but currently Overkill triggers on Mass Hysteria. Could see this getting changed.        
• Ironhide Direhord - Summons a 5/5 (though board space may bee an issue)
• Ticket Scalper - Draw 2 cards per Overkill

Wild

• Corridor Creeper (7 Mana 2/5 that costs 1 less whenever a minion dies)
• Crypt Lord (3 Mana 1/6 Taunt that gains 1 Health everytime you summon a minion)
• Volcanic Drake (6 Mana 6/4, Cost 1 less for each minion that died.) would cost a lot less.

Arena

• 3 Mana 4 Damage removal is solid.

Mage

Standard

• Primordial Glyph without the Discover. Leaves a lot to chance.
• Easy to complete with Cyclone decks right now, but probably not something Cyclone Mage wants to do.
• Twinspell in any type of Mage.
• Mages have a long history of Control so I wouldn’t write this off entirely.

Wild

• More random insanity for Casino Mage (and Puzzle Box for added nuts).

Paladin

Standard

• Good stats total. 7/3 total for 4 Mana across three bodies.
• Definitely aggro. Looking to refill or help with the curve.
• Beast synergy has never mattered in Paladin.
• Maybe Magic Carpet (give 1-Cost minions +1 and Rush)? With the new Jar Dealer (1 Mana 1/1 DR: Add a random 1-Cost minion to hand)?

Wild

• Even Paladin

Arena

• Yes please.

Brazen Zealot

1 Mana, 2/1

Rare Paladin Minion

Whenever you summon a minion, gain +1 Attack.

Standard

• Team 5 has learned their 1-drop lesson.
• Secret Paladin?

• Sandwasp Queen would help that out too.
• 1 Health minions are traditionally good with Pally Secrets. Redemption & Autodefense Matrix
• Kind of scary with Never Surrender (+2 Health Secret).

Wild

• Odd Paladin (thought that list is pretty locked in)

Arena

• Would love to play this on Turn 1. Really falls off past that.

Salhet’s Pride

3 Mana, 3/1

Rare Paladin Beast

Deathrattle: Draw two 1-Health minions from your deck.

Standard

• Draws the other two new minions we just talked about.
• If a new Aggro Pally comes out of these new cards this lion will find a home in it.

• That said, without more ways to give these minions more Health (or a sticky Deathrattle like Druids and Shaman) this seems unlikely.
• Sure seems like the Quest will have something to do with 1 Health minions.

• Current Decks

• There’s an argument for this over Acolyte in Holy Wrath Paladin
• Could pull Thalnos, Novice Engineers, Elven Archer and itself (though a lot of Wrath Pallys only run 1 Acolyte).
• Any future Control decks looking to draw 1 Health card draw through Engineers, Hoarders, and Thalnos.

Wild

• Just play Divine Favor.

Arena

• Probably really bad.

Priest

Psychopomp

4 Mana, 3/1 Epic Priest Minion

Battlecry: Summon a random friendly minion that died this game. Give it Reborn.

Standard

• One of the cooler cards revealed so far imo.
• 4 Mana is an early resurrect effect to add Reborn to.
• Lots of talk about SNIP-SNAP & Harvest Golem

• There’s a high chance that if these minions died, so did their tokens. Meaning a high chance of the tokens being the resurrected minions.
• Harvest Golem has a less bad worst case scenario bringing back the 2/1.

Arena

• Hard to control value plays but okay as long as anything is in your graveyard

Rogue

Plague of Madness

1 Mana Rare Rogue Spell

Each player equips a 2/2 Knife with Poisonous.

Standard

• This is a difficult one. Waggle Pick isn’t going anywhere.
• Probably for aggro Rogues. Would have to be quite aggro.
• Going to see play whether it gets a deck slot or not through Ethereal Lackey.
• It’s another cheap way through big Taunts but if you’re not winning the game after removing that Taunt then you’re probably taking too much damage.
• I don’t see this going into current Rogue lists.
• Cool flex, especially considering Secondary/Tertiary in Specialist. Yes it’s removal, but it can also be weapon removal.

Shaman

Earthquake

7 Mana Rare Shaman Spell

Deal 5 damage to all minions, then deal 2 damage to all minions.

Standard

• Attention all Control Shamans

• Also please dust off your Sunreaver Warmages (5 Mana 4/4 BC: Deal 4 if you’re holding a 5 cost spell or more). -matgopack on r/competitivehs

• Finally an answer to sticky Deathrattles (Token Druid, Murloc Shaman)
• Great against the new Reborn mechanic
• No Overload

Wild

• Great against Shredders and Sludge Belchers, not so much against Voidlords.

Arena

• Yup

Weaponized Wasp

3 Mana 3/3, Rare Shaman Beast

Battlecry: If you control a Lackey, deal 3 damage.

Standard

• This card is just good.
• Sludge Slurper is already amazing and Shaman is getting the Lackey-generating EVIL Totem with Uldum as well.
• A Battlecry for the new Shaman Quest: Corrupt the Waters

• Quest Reward - Heart of Vir’naal: 2 Mana - Your Battlecries trigger twice this turn.

• Should be a consistent 2 for 1.

Arena

• It’s a 3/3 for 3 so sometimes you will just take it. Beyond that it’s a late game pick if you find yourself with Lackey generation.

Plague of Murlocs

Transform all minions into random Murlocs.

Standard

• Probably doesn’t get a deck slot?
• Situational in the current Murloc Shaman.

• But Sludge Belcher = Ethereal Lackeys = This will sometimes be selected
• In an aggro matchup where you want to be controlling the board anyway this can be good if you’re sitting on Murloc buffers (Warleaders, Tidecallers, Seers)

• Not the worst that you’re turning enemy minions into Murlocs. Could very likely be an improvement over the current board state.

Warlock

Impbalming

4 Mana Rare Warlock Spell

Destroy a minion. Shuffle 3 Worthless Imps into your deck.

Standard

• In a vacuum oof that’s a downside. BUT...
• These Imps make good Discard and sacrifice targets.
• The new Quest. This would help you survive fatigue.
• Warlocks are already drawing a lot, is drawing a 1/1 every now and then THAT bad?
• Deals with Turn 4 giants (huge against Mage: pre-Conjurers giants)
• I’d much rather draw a 1/1 than a Warrior Bomb. -Gentoon on r/competitivehs

How do you feel about Team 5 tinkering with Hero Powers yet again? Personally I feel like using Quests to upgrade Hero Powers is an inspired solution, because you're (almost) guaranteed to get the effect (unlike with Justicar Trueheart), but having to wait until the midgame alleviates much of the early game tempo that made Genn/Baku so oppressive.
